A Grateful Heart by Jazmine Misola, Class of 2024
BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,
because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.
~From Saint Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, Ch. 1:1-5, 9-11
Dear Saint Clare School Families,
This past week, we had our Scholastic Book Fair and Ice Cream Social. Many thanks to Natalia Cuenca and her dedicated crew. I heard things went well and I am sure we will hear about the outcome of the sales at the PTG meeting on April 5th. We are grateful to be able to provide this opportunity for families to enrich their home libraries and contribute to classroom libraries. You have heard many times from me and your teachers how just 30 minutes of reading every day greatly impact your child’s readiness for college and career. Reading improves literacy, forms your child’s vocabulary, expands their horizons, and builds stamina to read longer and more challenging material. There is nothing simpler and more impactful! The habits they form while reading with you, independently, and for pleasure is something they will carry with them throughout their life. Give them this gift!
You received your child’s Star Family Report. As Mrs. Kogura sent out a post explaining the ways you can monitor and partner with your teachers. Please be welcome to read the ORIGINAL POST. This third trimester is a great opportunity to focus on literacy skills as well as executive functioning skills. Encourage students to self-advocate, self-regulate, and persevere. Encourage a positive outlook and work through challenges together.
I’ve added a couple of parent resources to help students to thrive and feel seen and loved.
We congratulate the eighth graders who have been accepted to Catholic High Schools in the Diocese of San Jose. Eleven students were admitted to Archbishop Mitty High School, 7 students were admitted to Saint Francis High School, 7 were admitted to Bellarmine College Preparatory, 1 student was admitted to Notre Dame High School, and 1 student was admitted to Presentation High School. (Admission to ND and Presentation may appear low; this is due to the fact that there are only four girls in the Class of 2023 and the two that applied to the single gender high schools both got admitted. ) We are very proud of this group of young scholars. We know that whatever high school they choose to attend, they will represent Saint Clare School with pride. Congratulations, as well to their teachers and their parents for preparing them well.

DATES TO NOTE
March 31 - NO SCHOOL/NO CKZ | Cesar Chavez Day is a California state holiday honoring the life of the founder of the UFW, who, with assistance and encouragement from Dolores Huerta and Larry Itlong, worked tirelessly for fair working conditions for farmworkers across the Central and Salinas Valleys. March 31st is Cesar Chavez’s birthday. We encourage families to spend the day acknowledging and appreciating those who perform back-breaking work to provide us with the produce and livestock for our tables. Consider performing a day of service or putting together a kit to donate to Farmworker Caravan or through Catholic Charities.
April 1 - Family Fun Community Art Project and Fundraiser, 10A-1P Elementary blacktop (weather permitting; alternative location: hall).
April 22 - SAVE THE DATE! Day of Service | Join together as a community to fulfill our obligation to be stewards of God’s creation. More information to come. Service hours for parents and middle schoolers. Great learning for everyone in the family in partnership with the Guadalupe Conservancy.

6th Grade Happenings | The Egg Drop
Sixth graders used common household materials to protect a raw egg from breakage. The experiment had two parts. The first part is where the student drops the "protected" egg in its casing from a drop of 10 feet. The second part, is when the student throws their contraption with the egg inside to see if there is a difference when it is thrown with extra force.
The egg drop simulates a space craft landing from an altitude versus a space craft being ejected by force when the egg is thrown.
The object of the experiment is to design a casing that will protect the egg from breakage. As scientists, students must consider many variables in their design, test their design, and make adjustments to improve their design.
