A letter from Mr. Swanson: Conferences Important for Communication
As we move into the Winter mode with the accompanying boots, hats, mittens and heavy coats, the cycle of seasons is a good reminder that we are always in the midst of changes. The children that we work with are also changing physically, mentally and emotionally.
Those changes in our students are not going to take a break or go into remote just because we are in Remote status or because we have a pandemic happening. It is so important for your child's development that we try to maintain as much consistency as possible for them. This remote form of schooling is not what any of us would probably choose but it is what we have and how we are going to be doing school until some other decision is made about having students in school. We are hoping to have a decision soon about whether 1st and 2nd grade students will be allowed to come back to school like the Kindergarten students currently are in-school attendance. That information will be sent to you as soon as we know from the district.
You should have also received a first quarter grade report for your child this week and you will have the opportunity to conference with your child’s teacher these next two work days. We want to encourage you to ask questions about that report and give us feedback on how we could make the grade report more informative and helpful to you.
Thank you for your commitment to the best education for your child.

Thanksgiving Holiday - No school November 26th & 27th
There will also be no school on Thursday and Friday, November 26th and 27th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. We hope you get to relax and enjoy this time with family and friends.
After School Cross Country Skiing
Anne Love is our returning after-school cross country ski coach and she is looking for a helper who is experienced with sizing to help size kids next month in preparation for beginning the ski program.
We are hoping to start our Skiing program on Mondays after Winter Break. We also need parent helpers every Monday once the ski program starts. How many helpers we have will determine how many skiers we can have. Please contact Anne at alove@kpbsd.k12.ak.us or call the school office.
November Spotlight Students & Updated October Spotlight Lunch Date
The following students have been selected as Spotlight Students for the month of November: Oliver Brewer, Abigail White, Kimber Sheldon, Marshal Erickson, Anthony Kuzmin, Novi Galbraith, Malia Fisher, Dylan Deakins, Kari Lyon, Hudson Highnote, and Honor Kincaid.
Spotlight Student forms are being sent home with these children today. Please return them as soon as possible so they can be placed on our Spotlight Student bulletin board.
Due to the school closure that started the week of October 19th, we decided to push the October Spotlight Student lunch to November 20th. Parents are invited to join their child and the principal for lunch on Friday, November 20th at 11:45 am.
In an effort to keep our Spotlight Student Lunch numbers low, we will have our November Student Spotlight Lunch in the month of December....stay tuned for the date and time.
Thank you!!
