PCHS Updates
January 12, 2024
A Note from the PCHS Admin Team
PCHS Community,
1st Semester has come to an end and the winter storm excitement has begun! 1st Semester Report Cards will be posted in MiStar on Monday, January 22.
In preparation for 2nd Semester, which starts on Tuesday, January 16, please encourage your student to review their 2nd Semester schedule in MiStar on Monday before coming to school the next day. And encourage them to start the semester strong!
Stay safe out there this weekend, Pirates, enjoy the long weekend, and Go Lions!

Frank McMurray, Assistant Principal
Sandy Buczek, Dean of Academic Support
PCHS Course Selection Calendar
It is almost that time of year already! Starting in February, 8th-11th grade students will begin to explore and make decisions about their high school schedule for the 24-25 school year. There are a wide range of options to consider, which is a good problem to have! This also means it is very important to support your student in understanding those options and making intentional choices based on their interests and goals for after high school. See the calendar below for key steps in the process, as well as the flyer below it for Course Exploration Night on February 29. More to come!
Introducing Captain "Jack" Sparrow!
Thanks to an incredibly generous $10,000 donation from a Pirate family, PCHS will be receiving the newest PCS therapy dog, Captain "Jack" Sparrow (Jack for short)!! Jack is set to be trained across 2nd Semester and into the summer with the plan of joining us on campus full time starting at the beginning of the 24-25 school year.
Seeing how our students respond to Rosie, our volunteer therapy dog who visits us on Monday mornings, we know Jack will be an invaluable and loved member of the PCHS community. What a blessing to be able to look forward to a full-time addition!
Attendance Letters in the Mail
134 letters were sent home to PCHS families of students with over 10 absences in one or more classes 1st Semester. This letter is to inform you that there will be an "H" or "NC" on your student's report card set to be published on January 22, 2024. The "H" represents a Hold on credit due to between 11-15 absences and will require the student to complete make-up hours on campus in order to earn the credit. The "NC" represents No Credit due to exceeding 15 absences in a class. If you received a letter and have questions or concerns, please reach out to the Main Office (810-225-5501) so we can partner with you. We are seeing improvements in our attendance the further away we get from the pandemic, which is a good sign considering what has been a nationwide absentee crisis (with MI one of the hardest hit). Let's keep the trend moving in the right direction! We love seeing your kids every day!
The "Mac Academy"
Anticipating credits on Hold due to absences?? Join Mr. McMurray after school in the Main Office on Mondays and/or Tuesdays between 2:30-5:30pm to make-up time and ensure you're earning your course credit! The Mon/Tues option stands through March 1, and we will then revisit the schedule.
Please schedule your attendance at a Mac Academy session in advance with Mrs. Lasure at front desk of the Main Office so Mr. Mac knows to expect you. Many students have been taking us up on this, which is great!
Want College & Career Coaching? Did You Know We have a College/Career Advisor at PCHS?
Our College/Career Advisor here at PCHS is Ms. Clarice Farina, a PCHS Grad! Ms. Farina's primary role in the school is to support seniors in planning for their life after high school, whether that's a certificate, 2-year degree, 4-year degree, service-year, military, workforce, or something different. Some of her goals are to help students understand all of their options, help them find the best fit for them, and support them in taking steps to get there.
Students can set up appointments with Ms. Farina here or stop by the counseling office when they need assistance. She is at PCHS on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other Monday.
If you have any questions or would like assistance related to your student's journey with college, career, FAFSA, or scholarships, don't hesitate to send Ms. Farina an email (cfarina@pinckneypirates.org) or set up a phone call.
REMINDER: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens on December 31st, 2023. It is recommended that you create a FSA ID ahead of time because it takes up to 3 days to activate. Both you and your student will need to create your own FSA ID.
Class of 2024 Parents/Guardians - Interested in Helping Coordinate the Senior All-Night Party??
It's already that time of year! The Senior All-Night Party is an annual tradition coordinated and put on by the parents/guardians of the Senior class with the support of the Senior Class Council Advisor. Please reach out to the PCHS Main Office if you have an interest in taking a leadership role on this event! You can do this by calling 225.5501 or emailing Ms. Sharp at tsharp@pinckneypirates.org. Thank you!
