Message from Mrs. Stauffer
Dear Rainbow Families,
Another new year begins- welcome 2023 ! Let me begin by wishing you all a Happy New Year filled with many successes and continued progress. I hope everyone has had a chance to relax and enjoy some quality time with family and friends over the Holiday Season. The start of school, after a significant break, always provides a good opportunity to re-establish a focus on learning. This week teachers will be reviewing school-wide expectations with students. Here are some reminders for students:
1. Bring a water bottle to school.
2. Leave toys at home.
3. Be sure to get back to your bedtime routine.
4. Remember to use the tools in your toolbox for a Green Zone day!
Schools will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2023, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. There is so school for students and staff. Students will have a 12:30 early dismissal on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Message from the School Nurse
Hi Rainbow Community,
I am reaching out to ask for your support as we navigate the trifecta of Flu (Influenza), RSV, and Covid. Chester County is experiencing high levels of Influenza A. COVID-19 is at medium level. RSV is most common under the age of 5. These children may have cold symptoms, sore throat, fever, not eating or drinking well. Sometimes, RSV infection can lead to wheezing or bronchiolitis or pneumonia. You should have your child seen by the doctor for proper diagnosis.
Vaccines for Influenza and COVID-19 are available at many pharmacies and Chester County Department of Health by appointment only, 610-344-5405.
Please keep your child home if they are sick. If your student becomes sick at school, you will be asked to pick them up promptly. Students with Influenza can return to school after being fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medication and symptoms have improved.
If your child test positive for COVID-19, the must isolate for 5 full days. The first full day of symptoms is Day 0. They can return with a well-fitting mask on Day 6 if their symptoms are improving and fever free for at least 24 hours without fever reducing medication.
This is our district illness policy which can be found on the CASD website under Rainbow:“The following are some symptoms which may mean that your child is ill. Your child should remain at home when he/she has: Fever over 100 degrees, chills. persistent cough or shortness of breath, vomiting. diarrhea, unusual skin rash. severe sore throat, enlarged glands, abdominal pain, or inflamed eyes/eye discharge. A child should remain home at least 24 hours without a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and/or vomiting following an illness. By following these guidelines, you will protect not only the health of your child, but the health or his/her classmates. Note that your child will not be able to attend school if he/she is suffering from untreated pink eye, impetigo, ringworm, scabies, unusual skin rash, severe sore throat, or fever over 100 degrees.”
All the best,
Maria Buhl, School Nurse

Crime Victims of Chester County Personal Safety Programs
Dear Rainbow Families,
During the week of January 4th, The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc. (CVC) will be visiting your child’s class to present personal safety programs to students. A key part of the presentation includes having your child identify specific trusted adults that they could talk to about a safety problem.
The goals of the program are to:
· Teach children how to keep their bodies safe.
· Recognize the difference between safe and not-safe touches.
· Tell a trusted adult (such as a parent) if they have experienced a not-safe touch.
We understand that these topics may be difficult to discuss for both adults and children; however, your child’s safety is our number one priority. If you have questions or concerns regarding the child safety programs, please visit The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc. online at cvcofcc.org. Their website includes detailed descriptions of the lessons for each grade.
If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact our school counselors. If you do not wish for your child to participate in the presentation, please contact your child’s teacher and an alternative activity will be provided.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Maria Stauffer, Principal
Mr. Jeff Kuciapinski, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Christy Reid, School Counselor Grades K-2-4
Mrs. Stacey Babiak, School Counselor Grades 1-3-5

Important Reminders
Student Name/Teacher/Date and Time of Dismissal/Reason/Name of Adult picking up and relationship/Parent Signature and parent daytime phone#
All early dismissals should be completed at the main office by 3:00. Students must be signed out. Dismissals after 3:15 will be in the parent pickup line.
The adult picking up must bring a government issued Photo ID (preferably a driver’s license).
Refillable water bottles:Rainbow has transitioned to bottle filling stations. Water fountains have been turned off. Students should bring a refillable water bottle to school..
Transportation: A nationwide bus driver shortage is impacting many districts, including Coatesville, and may lead to increased delays. Buses normally run late the first two weeks of school as students and drivers become accustomed to their routes. We appreciate your patience. If your student is riding the bus, please have them at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the arrival of the bus.
Parent-Pick-Up Notes: Thank you for having patience with us as we work to make our afternoon dismissal more efficient. Please help up with this by sending a parent pick up note into school with your student. You may send in a handwritten note or download and print the form below.
