News before a much needed break
3/10/16
Track and Field- What an amazing event to make huge changes to in less than 48 hours! Renee has spent so many hours creating a schedule for in door track and field. She created new games and/or made modifications for games for the space we have. I know you have seen Georgia here in the last 2 days and some last week collecting money, organizing events, creating a map, snack schedule, lunch changes, moving the dance party, and on and on. Cheryl has done a terrific job with communication, typing up information, depositing money, and on and on. The teaching assistants took over snack collection and organization I know I am missing so many jobs that have done by these ladies and so many others.
Tomorrow will be the real life, on the job practice of "patience". Not that you don't do it daily, tomorrow will highlight that strength you have. Thank you in advance.
The week we are back from Spring Break, we will be holding the school spelling bee. It is a modified version of what we have done in years past. On Tuesday, please hold a class bee. I think it will be grades 1-5 or it could include kinder. I can't remember from home if it will include kinder. I will get clarification soon.
I will give you the list of spelling words to use for the class bee. Each class will have the top two spellers go to the school wide bee. We will have the school wide bee on Thursday morning. The PTA will be organizing the school wide bee. Since fifth and fourth are cementing their learning for STAAR the following week, we would like for second and third grades to attend and be the audience for the bee. Team leaders, I will give you a form to submit the names of kids from each class to move forward.
Due to time constraints, tutoring, STAAR, and TELPAS we need to put a hold on Boone University this year. We can start with these plans for the fall next year.
Thank you to the huge team of teachers who helped with 5th grade volleyball. It was an act of true dedication and support of kids by coming together to help ensure this fun event for kids happened.
Maria and Chelsey have been hosting and planning such terrific enrichment events for kids these last few months. They have planned visiting arts, musical performances, science experiences. Thank you ladies.
Our Read A Thon was a huge success this year. We doubled the money we raised this year for students to get free books who are less fortunate than our students. Congratulations Michelle!
Staffing Updates: Our PE position will be posted soon. We will start interviews in the spring.
We do have a long term sub set up for PE starting after spring break. Her name is Christi Cox. She will be here on Friday for Track and Field.
Keyla Barbosa has decided to spend more time with her family next year and is resigning at the end of the year. She dedicates such a tremendous amount of time and heart to her students and teaching and misses her own kids and family. She has made such an impact on kids and has focused such energy to kids making progress and getting any support they need. She will be missed greatly. Her job will be posted soon as well. If you know of terrific a bilingual teacher, have them apply.
I hope everyone enjoys a much needed break! TGIF
