Broken Arrow Week 6 Recap
"When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him and the son of man, that thou visitest him? Psalm 8:3-4
How great and how big is our God, yet he is intimate with us! It is such a mystery.

During the grammar stage (the Knowledge stage) we are training our children to categorize and organize information in the their brain to retain lots and lots of memory work, and there is more grammar throughout the Challenge levels too. The tutors find a a thread of connectivity between individuals pieces of memory work, where possible, in an age appropriate way, and then model memorization techniques for parents and students. These include: drawing to teach geography, singing to teach Latin, mnemonics in science, signing and rebuses for history, visual pegs to teach the timeline and moments to teach English grammar.
As parents, the reading you are doing at home gives context to the timeline, science, etc. These pieces of information will be assimilated and related even more as your student approaches the dialectic/logic stage.
As students discipline their brains to memorize, they are establishing permanent neural pathways in the brain that new knowledge will travel over and over again, establishing more neural pathways. "the mind retains the vigor and perfection gained by its exercise upon the facts put to memory." Sister Miriam Joseph, The Trivium.
Keep training you and your children's brains to retain. Keep wrestling with facts and ideas. You are one smart Mama or Papa. Incorporate the memorization techniques modeled for you by your tutor or ask other parents their best practices for integrating memory work into their daily schedule. Stay the course- you can do it. Through Him all things are possible 3!
This week at home for Foundations you should be reviewing week 1-7 New Grammar with your children. Incorporate some of the review games your tutors have demonstrated.
If you would like to know more about Martin Luther then you can read Story of the World Vol 2 Chapters 34 & 36. Also read Timeline Cards 94 and 96.
