First Six Weeks - All Grades Self Paced Preview- 4 Tasks
Task #1 : READ! READ!
I will be starting an online book study with the " Book Whisper" around the third week of school. I will provide the book for each participant. I will be sending out the invite after we get going in school.

I want to encourage you to build a classroom environment that fosters the love of reading! You will be have the opportunity on August 16 to hear BISD's vision for literacy this year! Our new ELAR Elementary and Secondary Framework outlines the vision.
Task # 2: What's New in Elementary Reading and Writing Curriculum ?
New Resources in the Google Curriculum Documents: The Unit Overviews are redesigned for helping with the planning process. They are modeled after the previews done last year.
For planning the first six weeks you will want to utilize the Unit 1 Overview for your grade level in Canvas.
The Unit Overviews have all you need to plan:
- Standards - Clarifiers are linked for easy access
- Reading Workshop First 21 Days Pacing Guide for each grade level with links to the documents and resources for establishing you reading workshop
- K-2 Word Work Pacing Guide with links to resources
- Detailed lessons in the Suggested Classroom Section- Suggestions are in the Reading and Writing Workshop format: Mini lesson, independent reading response suggestion,independent writing suggestions and sharing suggestions
- Jan Richardson's Guided Reading Lesson Templates
- Resources including the Norma Jackson Resource that go with the six weeks (You can also get to the NJ Resources in the Yearly Content Documents.)
This six weeks you are building the reading and writing workshop. Take time to get to know your readers. Use the Reading Workshop First 21 Days Pacing Guide to plan. ( Linked in each Unit 1 Overview)

Task # 4: Custom Conference "Tailored to Meet your Learning": Be ready for a great day of learning!
- Watch the 1:37min video for an overview of a Customized Conference (Unconference).
- Think about your professional learning this summer. Example: You went to a great workshop on your content...what are the points that you could share with others? Do you have artifacts that would help show others what you learned?
- Think about a topic you've heard of but would like to learn more about...there will probably be someone at your conference who is an expert!
- Bring mobile devices. Each room will have a computer with a presentation station.
