Principal’s Message - February 12th, 2021
Dear Hornung Parents,
With Valentine’s Day occurring this Sunday, we are having our parties today. In a Pandemic year, I feel the need to let you know a safe way of distributing Valentines. I have let our teachers know my wishes, along with the protocol that has been recommended from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Our teachers have been instructed to make sure all Valentines be put in the students “Valentines Box” first. The students will then wait 3 days before opening. However, we have some options that teachers will be using to distribute…
A few teachers had students distribute the Valentines last Tuesday (put them in Valentines boxes), where students will be opening today.
Most teachers will have students distribute (put them in Valentines boxes), and will be waiting until Monday to send home to open.
A few other teachers may be sending them home today (in their Valentines boxes) and asking you to wait until Monday to open.
In any case, safety is our number one concern. I appreciate your support with this endeavor…
Happy Valentines Day!
Sincerely, Jack Yates
Hornung Elementary Principal

The PTO arranged for a luncheon for our teachers & staff last Friday. Due to the snow day, this was postponed. Friday, February 12th is the new date for the luncheon. A big thanks to our generous donors who helped put this together.
Our sixth annual Hornung Silent Auction is on this year. A huge thanks to the parents who have volunteered to oversee a classroom basket. Please keep an eye out for emails/sign-ups that will allow you to contribute to the effort from your children's’ teachers.

Counselor Corner
Counselor Corner!
Welcome to February, families! Here we are again with another month and another lesson topic for classrooms. We will be visiting students to talk about Empathy and standing in the shoes of others. By looking at multiple perspectives, we can gain a better understanding of how our actions impact others and the world around us. We will discuss how others feel and where they are coming from. This provides a way to learn what we can do to help our family, friends, and peers when they need us most.
Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!
