Potential and Kinetic Energy!!

Kinetic- the energy of an object that is due to it's motion

Potential- the energy that an object has due to it's position, condition or chemical composition.

The law of conservation of energy

The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change forms. All of the different forms of energy in a closed space will always add up to the same total amount of energy, no matter how many energy transfers take place.

Seven Forms of Energy

  • Mechanical- the sum of an object's kinetic energy and potential energy
  • Radiant/ Light/ Electromagnetic- waves caused by
  • Sound- kinetic energy caused by the vibrations of particles in a medium
  • Chemical- the potential energy of a chemical substance
  • Electrical- energy that results from the position or motion of charged particles
  • Nuclear- energy that occurs when a nucleus breaks apart or when two nuclei join together
  • Thermal- the kinetic energy of an objects particles

Energy Transfers!!
