Student Placement for 2019-2020
When considering student placement for the upcoming school year there are several criteria we consider to ensure academic success for all of our students.
Our job is to ensure that there is a highly-qualified, passionate teacher in every classroom who believes that all students can learn, and challenges each child to meet his/her potential. Each teacher provides a safe and secure environment for students, and each teacher works with the others on the grade level to plan rigorous yet differentiated lessons.
However, even though our teachers provide input on unique student needs, if you have a concern, we want you to be able to share that information with us. You can do so by completing this electronic form. All forms should be submitted no later than Friday, April 26, 2019. We will not be able to accept forms after that date. The form allows you to write about the type of learning environment that will be most successful for your child, along with any additional information that should be considered. Please note,
we do not honor specific teacher requests in the placement of children at Dyer.
Attention 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Parents!
Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessment
March 22, 2019
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Your child will be participating in the Georgia Milestones End of Grade assessment in language arts and mathematics in grades 3 through 8. Additionally, students in grades 5 and 8 will participate in science and social studies. The testing window is between April 9 and May 7, 2019. The purpose of this assessment is to measure students’ mastery of the state-adopted content standards. The Georgia Department of Education will analyze assessment results and provide achievement scores to schools and families for each content area. You can learn more about these assessments at http://testing.gadoe.org.
The scores from this state assessment provide information about how prepared a student is to move on to the next grade and will be used to help make promotion or retention decisions. In addition to providing information about students’ mastery of content standards, the results provide teachers with feedback about instructional practices and assist school and district leaders in identifying academic strengths and weaknesses for planning educational programs to support improvement.
The school’s detailed testing schedule is available on the Dyer school calendar. This can be found on the school’s website. Administration time for these assessments ranges from 1 – 2 hours each day of testing. Please make sure your student gets plenty of sleep the night before testing, eats a nutritious breakfast, and arrives at school on time on assessment days.
