Counselors' Corner for Parents!
Mrs. Kassuba (Grade 5) & Mrs. Gresham (Grade 6) (1-17-22)
Character Strong lessons take place every Wednesday!
Character Strong is the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum that we utilize at BBIS.
The character trait(s) for the month of January is EMPATHY and HONESTY. We will have one more lesson focusing on Empathy and then move on to Honesty.
Empathy is the ability to emotionally understand what other people feel, see things from their point of view, and imagine yourself in their place. Essentially, it is putting yourself in someone else's position and feeling what they must be feeling. Several of our Character Strong lessons lately have been about listening and understanding other people's perspectives. Empathy is the emotion behind that understanding.
Honesty is the quality or fact of being truthful, sincere, and fair. It is the refusal to lie, steal, or deceive in any way. Honesty requires several other character traits such as good judgment, responsibility, loyalty, and courage.
Please encourage your family to have conversations about these wonderful character attributes, as you gather around the table for dinner.
We also have a Character Strong Family D.A.R.E. for you to try:
