Message from the Principal
Dear Central Road Families,
Thank you to all of our parents for volunteering their time to plan and attending our Halloween parties! The students and staff had a wonderful time.
We have gone from fall to winter weather in just a couple days. Please send warm coats, gloves, and hats to school with your child. Students will go outside for 40 minutes of recess every day, unless the temperature is below 10 degrees with the windchill. Students need snow pants and boots to play in the snow. If your child does not have these items, they have to remain on the blacktop area during recess.
In addition to our upcoming assembly, to honor Veteran’s Day, we would like to take donations for a Transitioning Homeless Veterans Collection Drive. These items will be donated by the Chicago Veterans Association to organizations helping transitioning homeless shelters for Veterans in Chicago. Please bring items by Nov. 8th Friday. A flier was sent home, with the list of items we are collecting.
Next week, your child will participate in an all school read aloud. Central Road invited three community members to read aloud the story, All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold and Suzanne Kaufman to our students. Mr. Jim, bus driver from route 04; Ms. Kathy, Central Road’s crossing guard; and Mr. Courtney, School Resource Officer, participated in the read aloud. Together, with our administrative team, we read aloud the book to students and it was recorded. Teachers will play the read aloud to students in the classroom. After the read aloud, students will create an artifact. Each student will decorate their name, so it symbolizes them. All of the names will be displayed on a bulletin board in our main hallway. The message from the lesson is; everyone is welcome at Central Road. Families are also a part of our school community. We would like to invite families to send in photos that include family members and students for us to display. Please send in photos with your child or you can email them to centralroadschool@gmail.com and we would be happy to print them for you. All are welcome, at Central Road Elementary.
Warmest regards,
Patti Van Winkle
Principal
