MONROE SCHOOL DISTRICT MESSAGE
(Copy of message sent to families from the Monroe School District on April 22nd.)
Dear Park Place, Hidden River and Monroe High School families,
As we near the end of our second week of in-person hybrid learning for our secondary students, we wanted to send an update on what the Friday schedule will look like for students for the remainder of the school year.
Beginning Friday, May 7, we will transition to in-person learning on a rotational basis for both cohorts. The cohort that is not on campus for in-person learning will be expected to do independent learning (no live Zoom classes) for that day. The daily hybrid schedules for our traditional secondary schools can be found here: PPMS | HRMS | MHS
It is important to note that attendance is taken even on days that students are participating in independent learning. Students must login to each of their classes via Canvas and/or submit assignments by the end of the day in order to be counted as present in each class.
The Friday schedule moving forward is as follows:
April 23 - All students attend Zoom classes remotely
April 30 - All students attend Zoom classes remotely
May 7 - A Cohort: attends in-person from 7:50 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. / B Cohort: remote independent learning
May14 - B Cohort: attends in-person from 7:50 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. / A Cohort: remote independent learning
May 21 - A Cohort: attends in-person from 7:50 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. / B Cohort: remote independent learning
May 28 - No School; Memorial Day Break
June 4 - B Cohort: attends in-person from 7:50 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. / A Cohort: remote independent learning
June 11 - A Cohort: attends in-person from 7:50 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. / B Cohort: remote independent learning
June 18 - B Cohort: attends in-person from 7:50 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. / A Cohort: remote independent learning
For your planning purposes, we have created a printable calendar with the above dates. The calendar can be found here.

THIRSTY?
FROM THE SCHOOL HEALTH SQUAD
Dear Park Place Puma families,
There has been a recent uptick in the number of COVID-positive cases in Snohomish County. As a result, you may have received a call from the health room notifying you that your student may have been in close contact with a COVID-positive peer. I want to emphasize that this call does not mean your student is infected, necessarily, but they will need to remain in quarantine for a set amount of time prior to coming back in person.
I have been asked several times how long this quarantine period will last. In the case of close contact with a confirmed COVID-positive person, the length of time is 14 days from the date of last contact. The Snohomish Health District guidelines linked below provide additional information.

https://www.snohd.org/DocumentCenter/View/7206/SP-Close-Contact-Quarantine-Guidelines-0421 (Spanish)
Park Place and Monroe School district adhere to these guidelines in our attempts to prevent the spread of COVID and keep everyone as healthy as possible. As always, if you have any questions, please contact the Park Place health room at (360) 804-4332.

LIBRARY NEWS
MSD WRITING PIECE
Monroe School District Students,
What has school been like during the COVID-19 pandemic? The Monroe community wants to hear from YOU!
Each year, the Monroe School District mails a community newsletter to all homes within the district’s boundaries (see past editions here). That’s over 16,000 mailboxes! The purpose of these newsletters is to share information and positive news about our schools, students and staff with all community members.
This past year of school hasn’t been like any other before and we want to share YOUR first-hand accounts of what it has been like as students in the next edition of our community newsletter. Many of our community members don’t have students in school and are very curious what school has been like for students this past year. Therefore, we are inviting all students to submit a writing piece that may be featured both in the printed newsletter and on our website. At least three entries will be selected, including one from the elementary (K-5), middle (6-8), and high school (9-12) grade levels.
Writing Prompt:
You are living through history. Future historians may look back on the journals, essays and poetry that ordinary people, like you, are creating now to tell the story of life during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Imagine 100 years have passed and it’s now the year 2121. Historians are looking back on a piece of your writing that describes what school was like during the pandemic of 2020-21. In an essay, journal entry, poem, news article or any form of creative writing, describe what school has been like for you as a student during the pandemic.
Writing submissions will only be accepted from students who are currently enrolled in the Monroe School District. Submissions must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Not all submissions will be featured in the community newsletter and/or district website. If you have questions, please email communications@monroe.wednet.edu.
