Sustrans Big Walk & Wheel

The Sustrans Big Walk & Wheel takes place from 20 – 31st March. Please see a message from our Eco Warriors about this:

On the 20th March the big walk and wheel will start so we ask you to let your child walk, bike or scoot to school. If you live too far away to walk or bike or scoot to school, please park your car possibly a mile or more away if you want to.

Thank you!

FOSS Breakfast

Thank you to everyone who came to the FOSS breakfast this morning. It was lovely to see everyone in school. Thanks to FOSS for cooking and organising the event.

Willow Canopy

We are expecting the work on erecting a canopy outside Willow class to commence on Monday 13th March. Please note that there will be no access to school through the churchyard gate during that week until the installation is complete.

Mrs Garland-Collins

Sadly, Mrs Garland-Collins will be leaving us at Easter to take up a new position as Assistant Headteacher at a school abroad. We would like to congratulate her on her new appointment and thank her for all she has done for Saxton School. Mrs Potter will teach Maple class next term.

Art Project

We have commissioned a local artist to work with each class on an art project for our wildlife area. This will commence next Friday, 10th March.

Learning Reviews - 8th March

Don’t forget that it is Learning Review day next Wednesday. School will be closed to all pupils as this is classed as an INSET day, although we do expect KS2 children to attend their learning review meeting.

Mrs Doy

We would like to congratulate Mrs Doy on her promotion to the position as Trust Support Cook, working in kitchens throughout the Trust. Sadly, this means that she will leave our school in the near future (although she will be calling in from time to time).

Litter Pick

We were really pleased that the village litter pick went so well last week. Children did a great job of finding and removing litter in the verges and roads around our village, which will really help our community and environment.

Open Classrooms Tuesday 21st March

A chance for your child to show you the work they have been doing. The classroom will be open from 3.30pm to 5pm so please come along.

School Lunches

Next week we will be on Week 3 of the Spring 2023 lunches menu.

Children can decide daily whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch.

Please ensure you discuss the menu each day with your child so they can decide what they would like to order. Once they know their choices, they will choose this each morning with their teacher during registration.

Each day there are 4 choices, either the hot dinner, hot vegetarian option, jacket potato with a choice of toppings or a sandwich. The sandwich and jacket potato always come with a selection of vegetables/salad on the side and have the full pudding choice for that day.

Packed Lunches - if you are sending grapes in your child's packed lunch, can you please ensure that these are cut in half.

Spring 1 2023 Lunch Menu

From w/c 2nd January - w/c 27th March

Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.

If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:

  • Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.

Apply for free school meals

You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.

Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
