Student Celebration and the First Assembly

This past Friday we had our first school wide assembly. Members of the student celebration club presented information on the Hanawalt Block Party, The One Run, and The Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Our Hanawalt Student Celebration Club is collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. If your family would begin collecting them, they would greatly appreciate it. Pop tabs will be dropped off in the blue case inside of the school. They look forward to seeing how many tabs are collected this school year. Thanks for your support!

Habit One - Be Proactive

During the month of September, we have taught and discussed Habit One - Be Proactive. Here are some of things we talked about:

Proactive people choose their own way and take responsibility for the results. You are being proactive when you:
  • Remain calm.
  • Take responsibility.
  • Think before acting.
  • Focus on solutions.
  • Take initiative to make things happen.
  • See alternatives, not roadblocks.
  • Focus on what you can influence.

Student Language

You're in Charge: I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.

Ways to practice Be Proactive:

  • Start sentences with “I choose to…” “I get to…” “I want to…” “I can…”
  • The next time you feel bored, do something nice for someone else.
  • Try doing something today that you’ve always been scared to do. Make a new friend or raise your hand in class.
  • If you do something wrong, say you’re sorry before someone asks you to apologize.

OneRun

It was great having so many Hawk families at the OneRun! It was a beautiful moring and great way to raise money for Hanawalt.
