SES High 5 Afterschool
March 2018
March Roared In for High 5
March came in like the king of the beasts for SES High 5 Afterschool. Early March the CLC team was in preparation for a site visit from the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), Monday, March 19. That same week SES High Five started its final eight week session, including second through fourth grade Robotics.
Positive Feedback
The CLC team was pleased the DPI site visit went like clockwork, with cooperation from so many people - WIN teachers, enrichment teachers, students, custodians, CLC staff and parents. Presenters, Angie Bodzislaw, from Spooner Memorial Library, and Eva Apelqvist, author of published articles in Highlights magazines, proved to engage students and parents attending. A huge thanks to everyone!
Robotics Is In The Building!
Mrs. Melissa Smith, third grade teacher at SES, starts the second and third grade Robotics class with a little movement to help expel energy after the regular school day.
Tell It What To Do
Solei, Izzy and Gracelyn worked together to maneuver the BluBot.
If You Don't Succeed, Try, Try Again
Troubleshooting was part of the fun.
Thinkers and Doers
Bella and Jacob successfully got their robot moving.
Go Shake an Egg
Guess the object in the egg. Smiling 4H Afterschool leader, Roberta Hubin, shook one of twelve eggs for students. Her co-leader, Ashley Allaback, assisted students in guessing.
WIN-ning High Five Teachers!
High Five students are fortunate to have teachers, left to right, Maggie Farmer and Katie Stipetich, to give them a boost with what they need in math or language arts.
Behind the Scenes
Mr. Tim Scalzo is a constant in the Afterschool program. Every day of High Five he sets up tables for snack and keeps rooms available for staff to function effectively.
Rails Way is the High Five Way
The Rails Way behavior program during SES day school is also adhered to in our High Five Afterschool program. Leaders and staff reinforce day time expectations, keeping the transition as smooth as possible. Tickets are given when students show positive behavior from check-in and recess through Snack Time, during WIN/Academic Clubs, and at Activity Time just prior to check-out. Even our van drivers reinforce positive behavior choices by handing out tickets to students who show The Rails Way!
Each grade level will be working toward a Dress-up Day for an incentive in March. High Five and day school will keep giving away tickets for those being respectful, responsible, and safe.
