NEWS & REMINDERS
Info from District: MARCH 14 NATIONAL STUDENT WALKOUT
- Elementary students will likely not participate in the walkout. Should an older student get up and leave his/her class, have a plan in place for where students go and how they are supervised. There will be no penalty given to them for walking out, if that happens. They will need to return to class after the 17 minutes for 17 lives.
- Please remember this is an optional event that many of our students, particularly secondary, will choose to participate in. We are not encouraging it or promoting it, but we are making plans to ensure students who do participate are safe and supervised.
March 14 National Student Walkout - Monroe Info
- We will not be making an announcement or planning anything else at Monroe for the walkout.
- I have talked with principals at other schools and the consensus is that many parents of elementary age students have chosen to not discuss the tragedy in Florida and we don't want to bring it up over a month later.
- If you do have a student who asks you about walking out for 17 minutes, you may tell them they can come to the office to observe the 17 minutes.
- This is not something we are promoting or organizing, just having a plan in place if a student chooses to participate.
- Let me know if you have questions.
NPS Safety Website
NPD VISITS
- The NPD recognizes that the Elementary Schools are our most vulnerable point because we do not have SRO’s there.
- District Units (Beat Officers) will begin visiting the elementary schools, introducing themselves, and becoming familiar with the layout of the schools.
- Be on the lookout for an officer may be stopping by in the near future! Please greet them; invite them to your classroom if you have some time... and help them to build some immediate relationships with students!

DILEMMA: CALLING PARENTS BACK FROM YOUR CELL PHONE
- Have you ever needed to call someone back only to realize it is after-hours, you are away from school, and... you would rather they not have your personal cell phone number?
- If you have an iPhone, you can turn off your caller ID by following these steps:
- Go to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID; toggle the switch to the off position.
- Voila! Your caller ID will not be visible to the recipient (you will have to hope they answer those types of calls, of course). DON'T FORGET TO REVERSE THE PROCESS and turn your Caller ID back on, so that your family and friends WILL know who you are!
