Dear Jackie Robinson K-8 Community,

I hope everyone had a great three-day weekend and had the opportunity to reflect on the impact that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had and continues to have on our country.

Holiday There will be no school next Monday, January 18, 2021 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Two Weeks Left Before Final Grades are due. Be sure to ask your children to stay focused and complete all the assignments provided. If they have any pending assignments, make sure they contact their teachers before it is too late.

Vaccinations for LBUSD Staff. Educators will be eligible to start taking the Covid-19 vaccination starting on 1/25/21. This brings us a step closer to overall plans to be able to reopen schools in the near future.

Reopening Plan Parent Survey. Our District sent out a survey to all parents this past week seeking information regarding their interest in having their children attend in person instruction when it is allowable to do so. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey as it will provide us meaningful information as we start making necessary changes for in-person instruction in the near future.

Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. People across the country honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the three day weekend. Dr. King was most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States. Peace, freedom, and equality are all keywords to describe Dr. King's journey for people to be treated equally and he relayed that message in his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

ATTENDANCE

ATTENDANCE

Parents, you have a major role in supporting your child’s online attendance and learning. Please make sure your child is ready to log on and participate by 8:00 am daily . As such, the District will monitor online participation on a daily basis and communicate with you if your child is absent from their online learning sessions.

Please alert your teacher or call the Office if your student is sick or can’t log for a connectivity reason.

Our Dolphins have 3 major responsibilities: engage in learning, complete assignments on time, and stay in touch with teachers. Parents can help by:

*Establishing a routine for bedtime and for the morning for your child

*Checking on your child’s attendance regularly (ParentVue)

*Encouraging your child to log in to CANVAS account, participate and engage unless he/she is truly sick

*Calling the school and provide notes when your child is absent

*Communicate with your teacher or Office to report any technical problems.
