From Your Proud Principal Mr. Murphy
Dear Thompson Crossing Families,
As we come close to the school year ending, it seems like we just started. It sure feels like time flies faster and faster with each passing year. On behalf of the faculty of Thompson Crossing, I would like to thank our students, parents, and families for a great year of learning! You are all truly amazing.
When you take a look at your child when they come home for summer vacation, I hope you recognize the growth and maturity that he/she has achieved over the course of this year in school. As educators, our hope is that lessons such as working hard, doing your best and working cooperatively with others, stay with these students for many years to come and help them develop into better students, learners, and citizens as they grow. I would like to thank our faculty for all of their hard work and dedication this school year in helping in the growth and development of our students. I would like to thank you as parents for talking about concerns, and accepting your role in your child’s education as well. We are truly a team in these efforts and although we always try our best, we may not always know what parents are thinking. Thank you for communicating and we hope you continue to do so.
We look forward to our 4th graders moving into 5th grade next year and look forward to them becoming the leaders of our school next fall. I know they will be up to the challenge. We also look forward to a set of brand new faces entering our building in kindergarten and those coming for 3rd grade REACH….welcome students! We wish each of our fantastic 5thgraders the best of luck at Middle School! I know MSE will be very happy to get our Thompson Crossing kids!
If you, or someone you know, moves out of the district or TC boundaries, please notify us ASAP. If someone you know moves in, please have them register before June 8, or the week of July 16. Our class sizes and number of sections rely on current information and we are very close to needing additional sections for this coming year.
It is my sincere hope that everyone has a fantastic summer vacation and we will see you back at school for the 2018-2019 school year. See you all on July 30th!
Enjoy your summer,
Jeffrey J. Murphy

From Our School Nurse
Pick up by parent Notice of Medication in the Clinic—
As the school year draws to a close, please be aware that if your student has medication in the clinics, a parent must transport it home. Medication will not be released from the clinic unless a parent takes it home. Empty prescription bottles will be sent home with the student. Students with doctor’s orders to carry emergency medication will be allowed to carry the items home, as FT procedure allows.
If your student has any type of over-the-counter medication that is not used frequently, please come into the school to pick it up before the last day.
If your child must take a prescription medication at school, please arrange to pick up the prescription by end of the day on Wednesday, May 23rd. Any medication remaining after the end of the school day will be destroyed unless you have called the nurse in advance. The nurse is not in attendance over the summer. Thank you for your cooperation and support of student safety.

Reminders
Student Drop-off/Pick-up
For the safety of our students, it is important that all persons picking up or dropping off students use the proper procedures. Students may not be dropped off before 8:40 a.m. With security procedures, the front door will not be unlocked until 8:40 a.m. and students should not be allowed out of an automobile until that time. We also understand that the drop off line gets long in the morning, but please be patient and take the time necessary to make it safe for all our students, parents, and staff. When dropping off students before and after school, please use the main entrance area only. Make sure that you follow the drive through and drop off lanes. Also, make sure that students get out on the curb or left-side of the car. There is no passing in the drop off lane. Your patience is always appreciated!
Appointments/Early Dismissals * New Procedures
On the day of your student's appointment, it is very important that you have your student bring a note to their teacher or the office before school begins for the day. **Prior notification completely eliminates a classroom disruption and helps to assure that your student will be waiting in the office and ready to go when you come to sign them out. We understand that last minute things come up, but we do ask that you keep walk-up requests or last minute phone calls to a minimum. If you are picking up your child for an early dismissal THEY MUST BE PICKED UP BY 3:15 PM ON A NORMAL DISMISSAL DAY AND 2:50PM ON A PLC/WEDNESDAY. Request for early pickups by parents for appointments, etc. will be made through the front office and MUST be in writing also. These new policies will help ensure a safe dismissal for all students. The note should include the students name, teacher name, your name and date. When picking up your child for appointments, please go directly to the Main Office to sign them out. When a student returns from a mid-day appointment, the student should sign back in at the Main Office and turn in his/her doctor's note if they have one.
Absences During the School Year
Students should be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication (i.e. Tylenol) for 24 hours before returning to school. If your child has an illness associated with vomiting and/or diarrhea, they should not return to school until 24 hours after the last episode. This helps prevent further spread of viruses and bacteria, and to promote a healthier environment for all. Our goal at Thompson Crossing is to keep kids healthy and in school. It is important for all students to adhere to our illness guidelines in order to reach this goal.
Attendance is extremely important. If your child is not in our classrooms, they cannot learn and be exposed to the same content as their teacher presents. However, everyone becomes ill at various times and we understand! If your child is going to be absent, please call our attendance line at 860-4678 by 9:15 AM. Our data clerk will check the line daily to record absences. Follow the steps below:
- Date of phone call
- Name of parents/ guardians
- Name of student
- Reason for absence
- Number of days for the absence
If you need to leave a personal message for your child’s teacher and/or request homework, please call the teacher’s voice mail number.
