Mill Valley Weekly
Thursday, November 21st
Hello Mill Valley Families,
It is hard to believe how quickly the school year is going and we are only a week away from Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for here at Mill Valley. We are thankful for our teachers and staff who go above and beyond every day to ensure our students continue to learn, grow and succeed. We are thankful for our parents and guardians who support us in our journey of helping students be the best that they can be. We are thankful for our students who strive to be respectful, responsible and kind every single day.
Due to Thanksgiving break, we will not send the Mill Valley Weekly next Thursday. Reminder, we do not have school Wednesday, November 27th, Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th. We wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones.

Holiday Movie Night and Cookie Exchange
On Friday, December 13th at 6:30pm, PTO will be hosting a holiday themed family movie night in the MV gym for all students and families. We are also asking families who want to participate in a cookie exchange to bring their favorite cookies in a disposable container (or wrapped). Then, you are welcome to take home someone else’s cookies. We encourage families to bring gluten-free and nut-free options too. We will have different tables set up to clearly mark cookies. Any leftovers will be donated to local nursing homes for their holiday enjoyment.
We are looking for a few volunteers to help with this event. We would greatly appreciate your time. Please, email MV PTO if you are interested. HERE: millvalleymuskegopto@gmail.com
Parents of 4th Graders...
We are looking for a volunteer to chair the 4th grade “Moving on Celebration” planning committee. Each year, the PTO sponsors a fun event for the 4th graders and their families on the last day of school (June 11, 2020) to celebrate their time at Mill Valley and recognize their “moving on” to middle school. In years past this has included the coordination of organizing treats for the celebration at school, the all grade t-shirt design including production and distribution, creating the all student video slide show, and coordinating an off-site celebration.
If you are interested in organizing and helping coordinate a group of parent volunteers to create a memorable experience for your 4th grade student, PLEASE contact the MV PTO at millvalleymuskegopto@gmail.com. Planning will need to begin early in 2020! Thanks in advance!
Marcus Movie Theater Fundraising orders are due! Order forms will be picked up tomorrow at NOON.

4th & 5th Grade Teen Center
On 1/17/20, 4th and 5th graders will have the opportunity to go to Teen Center at Bay Lane Elementary. Free event for 4th graders! We want to give 4th graders an opportunity to try Teen Center so they will know if they want to join next year. Please complete the survey at your earliest convenience to plan for this event.
Attendance Matters
For parents wrestling with the decision of whether to take their children out of school during the school year, Sara Dimerman, an Ontario phsychologist suggests asking yourself these questions when considering...
Frequency: Is this absence a rare treat, or a regular event?
Length: How long will your child be out of school? A few days may be reasonable for some children, but for others, the loss of those days could set them up for long-term struggle.
Ability: Will your child be overwhelmed by the missed instruction or collaboration with classmates?
Grade: Missing three days during first grade are not the same as missing three days during middle school or high school.
