A Message From Your Principal
September Greetings,
Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!
This year is feeling GROOVY with our theme of Peace, Love, and Learning!
We were thrilled to welcome over 250 students to the Adams team this August.
It was great to see so many families at our Back to School Night. If you haven't returned the Student and Family packet or updated your information on Infinite Campus, please do so as soon as possible. We want to ensure we have accurate information in case of an emergency.
A FEW REMINDERS...
- Code of Conduct
Your child has already gone over the levels of behavior incidents within the Student Code of Conduct. Please review our School Handbook and the Code of Conduct on our website ops.org/Adams. This guides our disciplinary action at all Omaha Public Schools.
- After School Notices
We understand that emergencies or changes in plans can happen however we receive many calls at the last minute regarding dismissal changes for students. As you can imagine, the end of the day is very busy and it is often difficult to get these messages to the student or teacher by dismissal. Please make us aware of any dismissal changes before 3:00pm.
- Visitor and Volunteer Changes
You might have noticed a more secure entry way being installed at our front office. This will impact the way you are allowed into the building. You will still push the front button to be buzzed in. Additionally, the front desk will have a second button to press for you to enter the office area. If you are coming to check out your student, you will sign them out and wait in the waiting area . If you are visiting, you will be asked to take a picture for a visitor badge. Visits should be limited to 30 minutes and should be prearranged with the classroom teacher or principal. After your visit, you will turn your badge in at the front office. All volunteers at Adams will need to be prearranged and have a specific purpose. These changes will go into play September 18th. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping every student and staff member safe at Adams.
- School Etiquette
We teach and encourage our students to speak and treat one another in a respectful and kind way. We expect this same treatment from the parents and families at Adams. We understand the emotions can run high when there is a concern around your child. If these emotions seem too high and we aren't being spoken to in a kind and respectful way, we will end the call or ask you to return at another time. We value the relationships we have with families and want to protect these relationships as best we can.
- Open Adams Positions
Know anyone that would be a good fit in the Adams team? Refer them to the ops.org website, Human Resources Department, and search for Adams. We are still looking for an EL para and ACP para.
We have many exciting events and opportunities for families to connect at Adams! Please look for these important dates below.
As always, please call or email with any comments or concerns. We look forward to partnering with you for another GREAT year!

Volunteer Application
iPad Changes
This school year, we will only be sending iPads home for specific homework assignments. Some reasons we have arrived at this decisions are:
- Fewer broken iPads as they travel between home and school
- Fewer lost iPads
- Fewer non-school photos and videos being taken on the iPads
- Charging overnight can happen in the classrooms
- Decrease screen time at home
iPads will be sent home when winter weather arrives for remote learning.
Fall Festival Volunteers Needed!
🍁It's that time of year again.... Fall Festival! 🎃
Friday, September 29th 5pm-7pm
For those of you new to Adams, this is an Annual event that we hold. It's very similar to a carnival. A great family activity at a minimal cost.
This year we will be doing $5 per person for a wrist band good for unlimited games that night and access to 2 large inflatables!
Raffle Tickets and a Silent Auction will also be available!
Two Food Trucks will be on site!
Hartmanns Wieners 🌭
La Cubanita Taco Truck 🌮
Here is what we need from you...
1) We will send home forms for wrist band purchase the week of the event.
All wristbands will be distributed on Friday at the Fall Festival.
2) Sign up to assist! This event can't continue if we don't have volunteers!
Room for Improvement
At the end of each school year we ask our 5th grade students, staff, and families to complete a climate survey. As we reviewed this survey, one common thing was obvious among all 3 surveys. A negative response to the statement, "Students at Adams respect one another." Because of this, we will be putting a front and center focus on how we show respect. We are asking families to reinforce this teaching.
Here are some ways...
Encourage your child to try to see a different perspective
Encourage your child to make a new friend
At dinner ask your child "Who was kind to you today? Who were you kind to?"
Ask your child, "How do you think _________ was feeling when______________?"
By opening the dialogue, your student will be able to think, speak, and process how they are feeling each day and how their actions are effecting others around them.
We know life can bring highs and lows and various challenges. As a school community, we seek to be a supportive and safe resource for all of our families. If you are in need of any support, please reach out to our school counselor, Mrs. Lasky. She is available at Adams each day to address your concerns.
