Achieving Rigor: ELA Grades 6-12
"True rigor is creating an environment in which each student is expected to learn at high levels, each student is supported so he or she can learn at high levels, and each student demonstrates learning at high levels." (Blackburn, 2008). Get ready for a great day of professional learning centered on strategies to increase the level of rigor in the ELA classroom! Julie Monetta, SIEC Director of Educator Support, will be leading. The workshop day will meet the following objectives:
- Understand why the increase in instructional level rigor and student engagement are critical for all students' success
- Explore the myths about rigor and what research tells us about instructional strategies
- Defining rigor: Develop a clear definition and understanding of what rigorous instruction is and how DOK plays a role
- Explore the role of the teacher to increase rigor in the classroom
