New Social Studies Standards
We are very excited that the draft 2020 Social Studies College-and-Career-Ready Standards are ready for public review and comment starting today. The field review period will end on January 26, 2018, at 5:00 p.m.
Please examine the document from Kindergarten through the last high school course so the intent of the vertical learning progressions and any shifts in content can be seen and understood. Please note that the first indicator is the skills indicator and is deconstructed to promote understanding of it. Please follow the links below to view the draft standards and the associated surveys.
Due to the size of the feedback survey it has been split into two. There is a survey for the elementary and middle school grades and one for the high school courses. The original memo sent to district superintendents only includes the K-8 link. The attached memo includes both links.
Please share these with all interested parties.

Math Benchmarks
Math benchmark assessments are currently being created. During the week of January 8th, third through fifth grade students will take the
first semester math benchmark test. Questions will consist of
standards from quarter 1 and quarter 2. Students will take an
additional math benchmark test during second semester.
Teachers will use results to guide instruction.
*What will we do with the results?
This will not be something the district will collect and score. Data will be entered in a similar way to the F & P data teachers enter on the monthly instructional spreadsheet on Canvas. I have already added two columns to the F & P spreadsheet for teachers to enter both benchmark scores.Yakker Trakker
Zone 0 Challenge
Some strategies we encourage you to use:
-Stop your line and use your "claw"
-Students who still can't comply will serve lunch detention.
*Yelling at students to get them to stop yelling in the hallway is NOT productive and doesn't set the example that we expect from each other!

Absence/Tardy Calls Home
Hello [Parent’s name].
• I am [caller’s name] from [school name]. How are you doing today?
• First, let me say it is a pleasure having [child’s name] in our class.
o Include a comment about a quality the child has (e.g., [child’s name] has a wonderful smile, is always willing to help other children, etc.)
• I’m calling because, just like you, we want to do all we can to be sure [child’s name] is successful in school and one way we can help make this happen is to be sure [s/he] gets to school/ gets to school on time each day.
• When [child’s name] misses school [s/he] also misses valuable learning time and this can make [her/him] fall behind in [her/his] school work.
• Our attendance records show that [child’s name] has missed/has been tardy [number] days of school.
• Sometimes these absences/tardies add up before we know it so I thought I’d call to see if you might be able to help us out.
• How can we work together to get [child’s name] to school each day and on time? o Give parent time to talk; parent may begin to talk about ways the parent can do things differently do get child to school
o Open discussion; depending on how the conversation is going and how open the parent is, the caller may want to add a comment about how we all face daily pressures and we want to help support you any way we can
• I want you to know that we are here to help and we look forward to working with you.
• Please don’t hesitate to let me know how we can be helpful to you and [child’s name] so [s/he] doesn’t miss more school.
• Thanks for taking time to talk today. I look forward to seeing [child’s name] soon!

End of Year Testing Dates Announced
May 8 - SC READY ELA
May 9 - SC READY ELA
May 15 - SC READY Math
May 16 - SCPASS Science (4th), Social Studies (5th)Note from A Concerned Citizen
On my way home from work yesterday, I was listening to the radio and they were raising money for Levine's Children's Hospital. The radio host told the story of a little girl that has been raising money all year to donate to the children's hospital. The sweet little voice came on to say she raised $137 from raking leaves and selling cookies to her neighbors. She said she was from Rock Hill and a student at Ebinport Elementary. Her name is Marina. So super proud of her and her efforts to better this world we live in. Congrats to your school for having such amazing kids! No last name was given but thought you would enjoy some sweet news during the holiday season.
PBIS Celebration
We will hold our first PBIS Celebration for all our individual student and staff weekly winners on Thursday, Decemeber 21. Mrs. Cranford will be teaching the puberty class to 5th grade on this day as well, so some adjustments have been made to the times. All staff winners and female student winners should report to the cafeteria at 8:15. All male student winners should report to the cafteria at 9:15. The list of winners has been included in the dropbox link listed below so you will know what students to send and what staff members to attend. In the excel document listing the winners, there are tabs at the bottom of the page to show student and staff winners to this point. Classes of the month will not be recognized at this celebration. Please help other teachers on your grade level with their students as they attend to receive their rewards. The celebration should last no longer than 20 minutes. Thank you for your assistance. After the break, we will be haviing a celebration monthly and Eagle Mania in May as our big celbration for everyone who has been selected or voted on by their peers.
December 21
In addition, I will be making an announcement around 12:00 on December 21, pending any emergencies, regarding letting staff begin their winter holiday early! This is a special treat from Dr. Pew, for which we are VERY grateful!!
