Two-Year School Calendar for 2019-20 and 2020-21 Approved
Human Resources Director Kathe Monroe introduced a two-year draft of the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school calendars to the Board. Following the example of several surrounding districts, WLWV staff created a two-year calendar to provide information and dates for parents far into the future.
Highlights of the 2019-20 calendar include:
- A start date of Monday, Aug. 26
- Winter break begins Dec. 23 with school resuming Jan. 7
- Spring break occurring March 23-27
- Last day of school on Friday, June 5
- Three snow days built into the schedule for June 9-11 should they be needed in the event of inclement weather closures during the school year
2020-21 calendar highlights similarly include:
- Start date Aug. 31, 2020
- Winter break begins Dec. 21 through Jan. 4
- Spring break occurring March 22-26
- The last day of school on Friday, June 11
- Three snow days added to the end of the year on June 15-17 should they be needed
Monroe noted the district’s continued trend of starting the school year prior to Labor Day. This aligns the schedule with OSAA activities while increasing the time for high school students to prepare for Advanced Placement testing in the spring. The board unanimously approved the two calendars with minor adjustments.
You can view drafts of the presented 2019-20 and 2020-21 calendars under the School Board webpage of the district website. Updated and official calendars will be available on the district website later this week.
Board Recognizes Clackamas Community College Board of Education Director Ron Adams
The Board recognized Ron Adams on Monday night, who officially retired from the Clackamas Community College Board of Education earlier this school year after more than 15 years of serving Clackamas County students and school districts. WLWV Board Member Betty Reynolds will replace Mr. Adams for the remainder of his term.
District Receives Clean Audit Report for 2017-18 Fiscal Year
Sabino Arredondo of Wilcox Arredondo & Co., the school district’s auditor, also presented the final District Audit Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2018, giving West Linn-Wilsonville a clean ruling.
Mr. Arredondo stated his firm’s opinion was that the district’s financial position of governmental activities, including every major fund and the aggregate remaining fund information of the district, ended in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States.
Wilcox Arredondo & Co. presented the business office and School Board with two recommendations, including moving the district’s PERS Reserve Fund out of the Special Revenues section of the budget and into the general fund, and better monitoring daily attendance of students. The Board thanked Wilcox Arredondo & Co. as well as the WLWV Business Office for all of their hard work.
Board Engages in First Read of Long Range Plan, Capital Improvement Program
The School Board closed out the Jan. 14 meeting with the first reading of 2019 updated Long Range Plan and Capital Improvement Program. Staff, with assistance from DOWA-IBI Group Architects, have spent the past several months updating the Long Range Plan with guidance from the Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC).
The Board will engage in a joint work session with the LRPC during a Jan. 28 work session. The Board is expected to adopt the Long Range Plan at that meeting as well as begin discussing potential projects in the Capital Improvement Plan for a possible Capital Bond.
