News from Prairie Point's LRC
Illinois author Betty Kay
Illinois author Betty Kay visited Prairie Point on December 8th. She presented in character as the sister of Mary Todd Lincoln, Elizabeth Rutledge, to third and fourth graders. Her presentation for fifth graders consisted of three women of the Civil War: Jennie Hodgers, who passed as a man and fought in the war; Mother Bickerdyke, a Civil War nurse; and Mrs. U.S. Grant.

Thank you to these students who have donated books to our library in celebration of their birthdays: Sophia Buonincontro, Brody Main, Renee Eggers, Riley Eggers, Ella Schrader, Ethan Schrader, Justine Farrow, and David Diaz.
If you are interested in donating a book in honor of your child's birthday, please purchase a hardcover book of your choice, or send a check in the amount of $15.00 (payable to Prairie Point) and I will help your child make a selection from a catalog. A sticker will be placed inside the book honoring your child, and he/she will have the opportunity to be the first person to check it out from the library.
In October we were fortunate to have a visit to our school by author Gennifer Choldenko, who talked to fourth and fifth grade students about some of her books and her writing process. We are grateful to Anderson's Bookshop in Naperville for this opportunity.
We had planned to have author Karin Lefranc speak to first and second graders this month, but unfortunately that visit was postponed. We will keep you informed on whether we are able to reschedule. If you ordered a book and would like to cancel, please let me know.
Happy holidays!

Knitting Club
The Prairie Point knitting club members knitted 20 tiny baby hats for the American Heart Association's "Small Hats, Big Hearts" program.
The hats will be worn by babies born during February (heart month) at affiliated hospitals to help bring awareness to heart disease and congenital heart defects.
P.E. Reminder
Dear Parents,
The P.E. Department would like to remind you to provide your child with a pair of gym shoes to be left at school. Now that winter is upon us, many students have missed P.E. due to having boots. It's also helpful if all students are able to tie their shoes. THANK YOU!
