It's time for the Fort Mill Fun Run!

We will kick off the Fort Mill Fun Run Fundraiser this Tuesday with the student pep rallies! This time of year is always exciting as our students are exposed to positive character lessons and traits while also working to raise money for our school. It's going to be a fun and exciting week and a half. Be sure to mark your calendars for September 13th so that you can come out and cheer on your student during the Fun Run! Please stay tuned for more information regarding our fundraising efforts and thank you in advance for your support!

Parent Communication: Newsletters, Websites, See Saw...OH MY!

As you know, communication among all stakeholders is one of the most important factors in regard to student achievement. It is imperative that there is a line of communication between parents and the teacher/school. Our teachers are required to communicate with you at a minimum of once every 2 weeks via a newsletter or updated website. Grades should be put into the grade book and accessible by you in Parent Portal no more than 10 days after the assignment was due. In addition, teachers should actively use the See Saw app to highlight events within the classroom setting. Lastly, I email a WEEKLY newsletter to keep you update on what's occurring in school. Should you not receive these various types of communication, please contact a school administrator and let them know. Your awareness is important to us!

Speaking of Communication

Parents are such a HUGE part of our school and student success. That is why involvement in organizations such as the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is vital! Please join us THIS THURSDAY at 7pm in the Media Center for the 1st PTO meeting of the year. The meeting will feature a presentation from Kevin Nesteruk, a representative for IXL, the online learning site that can be geared specifically to your child's needs. A large part of our Boosterthon proceeds for this year are earmarked for this program, so we would LOVE for you join us and learn more about it.

Food for thought...

As many of you may know, in addition to being the principal of this wonderful school, I am also mom to two boys (ages 9 and 13). Just like you, I want the very best for my children and my husband and I often talk to them about school, being their best, their goals and the future. At a Meet the Teacher event a few weeks ago, one of my son's teachers shared this insightful video with the parents. I must admit, it stepped on my toes a bit, but also opened my eyes to some things that I may have been blinded to before in terms of parenting. As the principal of FMES, it is my job to not only work with students and teachers but to help empower parents as we work together to ensure that our students become the best version of themselves. Please take a moment to click the link below and view the video. I hope that at the very least, it makes you think about your children and who they are as learners and growing/developing small humans. :-)
