Frederiksen Panther News 2022-2023

Newsletter 3, October 2022

Dear Frederiksen Families,

We have such amazing students and families here at Frederiksen! Thank you for the support of our annual Boosterthon program (see results below), for your donation of gently used costumes for our first ever Costume Swap, for our yummy staff brunch last week, and for the donations coming in for the Trunk-or-Treat event that will be happening at the end of the month. We will be reinstating our Halloween Parade this year to allow families who would like to attend the event to come view and take photos. The parade will take place right after school gets started on the morning of October 31st. More information will come home about the parade during the last week in October.

Please note that we will be having a number of safety drills during the later half of next week to mark the Great Earthquake ShakeOut and to practice our procedures during a possible shelter in place or lockdown. Our staff will be undergoing Active Shooter Training provided by the Dublin Police Department and Alameda County during our October staff meeting and we will continue to refine our practices to ensure we are updated on the most effective and efficient safety procedures possible for our site.

Finally, please continue to follow all safe driving, drop-off, and pick-up procedures in our small parking lot. Students are to exit and enter the vehicle on the passenger side and be prepared once your car comes to a complete stop. There are many students coming and going on the sidewalk during the same timeframe and we need to watch our surroundings carefully and proceed slowly and cautiously. Reminder: there is no left turn out of the parking lot so plan accordingly. You may have noticed the police here to assist with these procedures recently. If we all follow the same procedures, the drop-off and pick-up will go smoothly. Thank you in advance for adhering to these safe practices.

With Panther Pride,

Claire Mognaga

Principal

Big picture

From Mrs. Perez, our Fine Arts Teacher:

Our first through fifth graders are currently learning songs during their Fine Arts class to honor all who serve at our upcoming Veterans Day ceremony next month. Students would benefit from practicing the lyrics and sign language at home. Thanks so much for supporting our program.

Meal Service Program

Our Snack/Breakfast and Lunch meal service program at Frederiksen is in full swing with the finger scanning system now in place for all students in grades 1-5 (unless an opt-out form was submitted). Meals continue to be free this school year. Please be aware that students are required to take all portions of the the meal to complete the food and nutritional USDA guidelines we are to adhere to in order to provide meals to our students. Many students are still learning this process and may be asked to go back in the line and select the missing item, such as a fruit or juice box, in order to complete their meal. No child will be denied a meal on our campus. However, each child is provided only one free snack/breakfast meal and one free lunch meal per day.

Lost & Found

Our Lost & Found is full! Be sure to label your child's jackets/sweaters/lunchbox/water bottle with names so we can return them when they are found. Our Lost & Found will be located in the main entrance to the blacktop after school this week in order to help you locate any lost items.

Boosterthon Results

Thank you to all of the students and families who chose to participate in raising funds for our school in this year's Boosterthon program. We collected donations from 38 states and 7 countries this year and had a 98% collection rate. Our final earned funding brought us an incredible $48, 059!!! Way to go Panthers! We are excited to begin spending this money on grade level experiences, assemblies, outdoor tables, supplies, and much more.

From the Attendance Office

Attendance is the key to your child’s success in school! School attendance and parent support are the most important factors in predicting academic success and setting the foundation for lifelong learning. If your child misses school, please be sure to call the attendance line @ 925-828-1037 Ext 2. Also, when reporting an absence it is helpful to spell your student’s last name. Thank you for your support.

Attendance 2 Attendance:

Every two weeks DUSD uses ‘Attendance2Attendance’ to pull attendance information for all students. The system will generate attendance letters which will be sent to parents using the district guidelines. Please plan medical appointments and extended trips when school is closed or not in session.

Walk and Roll to School Day was a Success!

International Walk and Roll to School Day was today, Wednesday, October 12. We celebrated our school spirit, our health, and the environment with the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program. We always encourage walking, carpooling, or taking a bike or scooter to school and today we celebrated those who were able to choose one of these methods. Students had the opportunity to mark their mode of transit on a chart before school near the small playground.
