Rotary Club of College Park
The history of the College Park Rotary Club began in 1986 with a handful of businessmen (already Rotarians as members of the Winter Park and Orlando Clubs) who believed that the neighborhood of College Park could sustain its own Rotary Club. With no official meeting place, they held their first meeting under the oak tree at Dubsdread Golf Course. Three of those influential men are still active members today, and the club’s weekly meetings remain at Dubsdread in the banquet room.
In 1987 the fabric of all Rotary clubs changed when women were allowed to become members of Rotary. The first female member of Rotary in Central Florida joined the College Park Rotary Club. That same year another woman joined who later went onto become the first female District Governor in Central Florida in 2001. Both dynamic women remain active members.
Throughout the years, club presidents and members have initiated fundraisers or service projects that have endured. In 1993 the first Barbeque fundraiser was held at Edgewater High School to help support youth programs such as Student of the Month, scholarship essay contests, and offering students the opportunity to attend an annual leadership retreat called RYLA. In 2003 the club began a book drive for students that don’t have reading materials at home. In just 5 short years the Rotary Club of College Park donated more than 5,000 books. These are only a few of the many projects College Park Rotarians engage in each and every year in order to give back to their community.
Fellowship among our members remains a primary driving force to our success. We welcome all people who are interested in community and international service and who want to bring new ideas and energy to our cause.
