Students have already started and are on pace to be ready. All ADVANCED ACADEMIC SCIENCE STUDENTS are required to submit a project as part of their graded classroom work. If the student(s) places at the District level, they will advance to the following fair:
The Houston Science and Engineering Fair (SEFH): Feb. 10-11, 2023, at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Students should begin their registration NOW, through Scienteer.com Parents will receive an online parent permission form from Scienteer after students register. Your student’s teacher will then approve the project and give constructive feedback as students' progress through their project. Please use the link for your school.

SEL News from the desk of Amy Argubright
SEL News from the desk of Amy Argubright
Hello! Each week, the SEL newsletter focuses on a different SEL competency and includes valuable resources and activities that you can use to promote well-being at home or in the classroom. This week's topic is Self-Management and Goal Setting. Self-Management is defined by the CASEL website as the “ability to manage one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and achieve goals and aspirations." Structured goal setting can support a growth mindset in students by helping teens experience their abilities and leadership. Check out the article link for more information and look out for part 2 of Goal setting next week.
I am happy to be here to support the students, staff, and families of CMS! Have a great week!

I hope everyone had a wonderful break. We have only 3 1/2 weeks left of the Fall Semester.
Students taking High School Credit courses are required to take a fall final exam.
Resources for Parents of Gifted Children
This page at the website of the Texas Association of the Gifted and Talented shares information from the Parent Division of TAGT, which has a nice list of resources.
Check out the movies suggestions with movies for and about gifted kids. You don’t even have to feel guilty about vegging and watching them. Call it research!
If you have (and can prove it) a profoundly gifted child, then the Davidson Institute is a great resource for you.
The MensaforKids site has parent resources (including my award-winning lesson plans that can be done without a teacher at home or at school), so check that out.
The National Association for Gifted Children and SENG (Social and Emotional Needs of the Gifted) are two must-belong organizations. SENG doesn’t have a typical membership structure, but you can join local parent groups.
If you’re homeschooling or have a child interested in the brain, check out Eric Chudler’s wonderful neuroscienceforkids website. It’s as amazing as he is!
