Our mission at Hidden Valley Middle School is to cultivate knowledge, to promote civic responsibility, to provide opportunities for the exploration of interests and abilities, to foster positive attitudes, and to develop essential skills necessary for all students to become productive citizens capable of thriving in the dynamic world of the twenty-first century.
SCHOOL INFORMATION

8th Grade Awards
Our 8th grade awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 24 at 9:00 a.m. in the gymnasium. Family members and family friends who are attending will be asked to sign in at our entryway tables and get visitors' badges before going into the gym.
6th and 7th grade awards will be given out through 1st block classes on Tuesday, May 23. The slideshows for those grade levels will be shared with families after that date.
VDH Vaccination Clinics
The Virginia Department of Health will have clinics for school-required vaccines in June this year. Students may attend any of the following clinics:

June 14, 4-6 p.m. Cave Spring Middle School
June 15, 4-6 p.m. William Byrd Middle School

Our Eagles of the Month for April are the following:

SOAR Card Recipients
Students can receive SOAR cards at HVMS by going above and beyond our school-wide expectations of being safe, organized, accountable, and respectful. Our entire matrix of school-wide expectations is posted to the right. We will be distributing SOAR cards to students and parents/guardians by email, and recipients will be entered into monthly drawings for prizes. INSTRUCTION

Just-in-Time Tutoring
Just-in-time tutoring provides students in grades 6-12 with an immediate online live tutor 24 hours per day/7 days per week. If a student is struggling with independent work, they can get immediate help to get them “unstuck,” even if they are at home late at night.
In addition to covering multiple subjects, just-in-time tutoring provides online help via chat and voice. Tutor.com also provides paper proofreading (12-hour turnaround time) and industry-leading Princeton Review ACT/SAT prep courses and materials.
HVMS PTSO
Our PTSO is instrumental in providing support to our entire school community, and the success of the program depends on you! Dues are $5 per individual who is joining. 100% of our membership fees go directly to supporting our school community. Moe's Taco Tuesday
The HVMS PTSO will have its last Moe’s Taco Tuesday on May 16. Order online now and pick-up at the school between 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. for the easiest dinner prep around! Click here to place your order: Moe's Order Form
PTSO Paint Party
In conjunction with Moe’s, the PTSO will also be hosting a Paint Night on Tuesday, May 16 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria, where everyone can become the next local Van Gogh, as we paint Starry Night over Roanoke! This is open to parents, students, friends, neighbors, etc. - the more the merrier! For everyone who attends the Paint Party, the HVMS PTSO will be providing FREE Moe's dinner as a thank you for participating!
TECHNOLOGY CORNER

Laptop Collection
HVMS student laptop collection will take place through Math classes on the schedule below.
Thursday, May 18
- Math 6 students
Friday, May 19
- Math 7 students
Monday, May 22
- Math 8, Algebra, and Geometry students
Loaner laptops will be provided for any testing that is administered after laptop collection.
Laptop Turn-In Preparation
- Student stickers and any writing in pen, pencil, marker, or paint must be removed from the laptop
- Remove all USB devices etc. from laptop ports
- DO NOT turn in the laptop case. Keep that for next year, or you may purchase a new one next year
Students must turn in the laptop and charger that was assigned to them with the stickers that have their personal laptop number. Ex HVMX121.
On collection day, the student must have a check made payable to Hidden Valley Middle School, or exact cash amount, to cover all items not turned in.
*Sorry, we do not accept chargers that you purchase to replace lost or stolen chargers.
- The cost for a laptop is $512
- The cost for a charger is $45
**If you already know you have lost an item, students can pay our bookeeper, Mrs. Hinchee, at any time before collection.
***If you find and return missing items after payment, you will receive a refund.

SCHOOL SAFETY


ATHLETICS
General Information
6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are allowed to compete on the middle school athletic teams. All participating students must have a current VHSL sports physical dated on or after May 1, 2022. No student will be permitted to participate in tryouts or practice without a completed VHSL physical form on file. Additionally, all students must have health insurance if they want to participate.
Athletic ticket prices: adult tickets will be $5, and student tickets are $2. These funds are used to help offset the cost for officials, transportation to away games, and team equipment.
