Mesopotamia - Tigris/Euphrates River System
Government:
Mesopotamian inscribed there laws onto huge stone slabs, usually standing 7 ft tall! These stones were kept in temples throughout the region, and each one depicted King Hammurabi standing before the sun god Shamash at the top.
Social Structure:
This stone carving depicts (to a certain extent) how the social hierarchy was in Mesopotamia. It goes in the order as follows: King, Priests, Scribes, Merchants and Artisans, The commoners, and the Slaves.

Mesopotamians had a polytheistic religion consisting of over 2,100 deities. Most of the deities were associated with a specific city or state in Mesopotamia such as Uruk.
Writing:
This is the Mesopotamian style of writing. Mesopotamians, like the Ancient Chinese, used pictograms to communicate through writing.
Egypt - Nile River
Cities:
This city called Tanis shows how ancient cities looked like. It also shows ancient architecture that dates back to its founding.
Government:
Ancient Egyptian Government was controlled by a single man, the Pharaoh. The people believed that the king was more than a man,he was a god. This gave him complete control over the people.
Culture-Religion:
Ancient egypt was a complex polytheistic Gods, Beliefs and rituals.

This is the kind of statue shows what kind of art background/culture they had.
Writing:
Egyptian Hieroglyphics was a system of writing that used pictures and alphabetical elements and sometimes would be written in cursive hieroglyphs on papyrus or on wood on special occasions.
India - Indus River
Cities
This was one of the old cities that used to thrive in the ancient times of India. The architects created many buildings throughout many of their cities with intricate towers that ended with points.
Government
Like many civilizations, the Ancient Indians were ruled by many kings. The king established law and order to many parts of the kingdom.
Social Structure
The social structure was very strict in ancient India. The social they had was called the Caste System, system organizes division of labor and power in human society.
Culture-Religion
The major religion that was in ancient India at the time was Vedism. Vedism inspired many things, such as the Indian culture and the caste system. The picture is one of the many Indian gods.
Culture-Art
Many of the culture/art was inspired by the major religion Vedism. Many art sculptures were based off of gods. Culture practices such as the Sati (where widows kill themselves over their husbands graves) were widely practiced.
Writing
The writing form during the time of ancient India was Brahmi and Kharosthi (which is undecipherable even to this day), and later the writing of sanskrit became widely popular.
China - Yellow River
Cities
This is one of the original four great ancient capitals of china, and was originally built in 495 BC. This picture shows of not only the city, but some Chinese architecture that can date back to it’s original founding.
Government
The ancient Chinese government system consisted of Dynasties. Usually there would be more than one, but the King of the dominant dynasty would become the Emperor of China.
Social Structure
The Social Structure of ancient china was mainly based off of confucianism. The qin dynasty of ancient China also divided people into 4 categories: Landlord, peasants, merchants, and craftsmen.
Culture-religion
Confucianism and Taoism were the main religions of ancient China. Confucianism was started by Confucius, while Taoism was started by Laozi. Both were philosophers. Confucianism teaches morality, while Taoism emphasizes harmony with a ‘force’ known as Tao.
Culture-Art
The art of ancient China ranges from painting to sculptures and so much more! This picture shows of a painting, which are usually done one paper or silk using black or color ink. In this case, color ink was used.
Writing
The Chinese writing system is based on logo grams, that are symbols that represent a word or meaning. It has since evolved into a complex system, but the this picture shows off the earlier years of the writing system.
