Ukraine became independent from Russia in 1918 after the collapse of the Russian empire.

Bohdan Khmelnytsky

Bohdan Khmelnytsky was a very important person in Ukraine's history. In 1648 he lead an uprising against Poland making Ukraine independent. He also lead an uprising against the commonwealth and formed two treaties with Russia. He was responsible for Ukraine being a free country.

This monument is in Kiev and it honors Bohdan Khmelntsky. The leader that influenced Ukraine to become a free and independent country. This monument is located in Kiev, Ukraine.

Flag

This flag was adopted in 1992 and was based on earlier flags of Ukraine. The yellow represents wheat and blue represents the sky.

National Anthem
