Financial Literacy Unit

During their study of Financial Literacy, students learned about paying rent, paying fines, and earning money. They learned the difference between wants and needs and the importance of saving money. The grand finale of the unit was our 4th grade Market Day. Students created, manufactured, and sold products to each other. They purchased items using checks and tracked the items they sold using their devices. What a fantastic way to learn about financial literacy - by actually living it for a week!!!

Emerald Village Field Trip

Little Switzerland, NC

Fourth grade is heading to the Emerald Village NC Mining Museum in Little Switzerland, NC on Monday, April 25th!!! We are so excited to be able to utilize this local resource during our study of North Carolina Rocks and Minerals. The two main events during our field trip will be a tour of the Bon Ami Mine as well as hands-on gem mining! Each student will receive a 1-gallon bucket to screen and sort through the dirt, keeping anything they want! Emerald Village has many free exhibits and two unique gift stores in which to shop. If you would like for your child to shop in the gift stores, please send them with their own money. The cost of the field trip is $15 per student. This will be an all-day field trip. If you would like to join us, feel free to meet us there at 9:45am!

Homework: Longer Reading Passages

You may have noticed that your child has been bringing home longer reading passages for homework. Please feel free to work with your child on these - especially helping them to accurately read the passages and refer back to the text to find the answers. Please encourage your child to take notes and "mark up" the text as they read.
