No Costumes on Halloween Please!

Tuesday, October 31st is indeed Halloween, but HRE does not promote the holiday by wearing costumes to school. Thank you for sending your children to school in their normal, school-appropriate attire this coming Tuesday and save their costumes for trick-or-treating on Tuesday evening!

Weekly G.R.I.P. Winners

All HRE students know about G.R.I.P. - an acronym which stands for Gratitude Respect Integrity Purpose. Students may earn "GRIP SLIPS" by demonstrating any one of these character traits. Each week, teachers draw one name from their classroom Grip Slips and that student is the Grip Slip winner for the week from that classroom. Those names are then entered into a weekly drawing per grade level; one name is drawn per grade level and those students come to the office to choose a small prize. We are pleased to announce our Grip Slip winners for the week:

Kindergarten: Anna Nguyen from Mrs. Sergi's class demonstrated Respect.

1st Grade: Yumi Shimonaka from Mrs. Wellington's class demonstrated Purpose.

2nd Grade: Kimmy Erath from Mrs. Edwards' class demonstrated Integrity.

3rd Grade: Hudson Welu from Mrs. Lee's class demonstrated Integrity.

4th Grade: Erik Rasmussen from Mrs. Mitchell's class demonstrated Purpose.

Operation Gratitude

Once again, Hoosier Road Elementary School students are invited to donate their extra Halloween candy to our troops overseas. Mrs. Washburn's 4th grade class will be heading up the drive which has become an annual HRE tradition.

With Veterans Day right around the corner, this is a perfect way for HRE students to recognize those who have sacrificed so much for our country's freedom by "sacrificing" some of their Halloween candy. All candy donations will be shipped overseas by a local dentist who has partnered with Operation Gratitude on behalf of our school. All types of wrapped, store-bought candy (except Pixie Sticks) will be accepted.

To learn more about Operation Gratitude as well as how the candy is donated, visit:

https://www.operationgratitude.com/

Please have students bring in their candy starting on Wednesday, November 1st. Candy will be accepted through Tuesday, November 7th.

Thank you for helping us to help others and demonstrate "Gratitude" to our brave service men and women.

Veterans Day Program

Hoosier Road's much anticipated annual Veterans Day Program will be held in the gym on Friday, November 10th at 9:30 AM. Doors will open at 9:15 AM. Please enter through Door 10 (near the gym). Our first through fourth graders will all be performing.

Due to space limitations, we are asking that only one parent per participating student attend; sorry, no siblings. However, if a parent would like to bring a veteran or someone currently serving in our armed forces as a special guest, they are welcome and encouraged to do so.

To speed up the entrance process and help with seating, there will be two lines located at the gym door (exit 10) -- one for parents with veterans and one for parents only. This is considered a public event so no background checks will be required.

Prizm Video Productions will be professionally filming our program and will offer DVDs for sale at $20 per copy. Ordering details will be forthcoming.

Our first through fourth graders are very excited to celebrate Veterans Day through singing, reading and honoring those who have served our country so that we may enjoy all of our freedoms.

Box Top Contest

It’s that time of the year to clip and turn in your Box Tops! Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help HRE earn cash. Find a full list of hundreds of participating products at www.BTFE.com. Prizes will be given to individuals and the top class per grade level. Please send in neatly clipped box tops with your student no later than November 3rd. Details were sent home with your student this week.

HRE PTO Needs Your Help!

The HRE PTO has started preparations for the annual Pancake Breakfast, Our Pancake Breakfast has been scheduled for Saturday, December 9th. If you or someone you know, has a business that might be interested in donating the batter, please contact Brittany Schmuck at brittany.schmuck@yahoo.com.
