Traffic Concerns
We are well aware that there are many traffic and parking concerns. However, here are some recent updates:
Good News:
Signs have been installed that make the driveway, next to the playground that exits the drop off area, one way only. There will also be signage indicating that you cannot turn left into the front parking/drop off area from the road connecting Cele to Mott. Once the signs are installed, that should help some of the morning congestion!
Bad News:
It has been brought to our attention that there are parents turning left into the main entrance, in the mornings, from the right hand lane of Hodde Lane. They are bypassing the parents waiting in the designated left hand turn lane. This is not only inconsiderate, it is illegal. Be advised that the police have been notified.Lice Information
Parents, we are still seeing lice infestations across grades and classes here at Mott, and have been sending class notices home as lice are discovered. Even if lice hasn't been discovered in your student's classroom, please regularly check your students for signs of lice and treat immediately if lice are found. Remember:
- One louse can lay up to 500 eggs per day
- Remember to check adults in the house too, and wash and change clothes, linens, and bag plush toys as well.
- No matter what treatment/brand you use, the most important things are to follow the directions EXACTLY, and continue to comb out hair nightly for 1-2 weeks after treatment to remove eggs and prevent re-infestation.
- If even one little egg gets left behind and hatches, the whole cycle starts again and you will have re-infestation.
- If you do NOT see signs of lice, treatment is not necessary. Over-treatment can contribute to medication resistant lice and can reduce the effectiveness of treatments on your child and others.
Mid-Year Parent Survey Results
Things to celebrate:
- 86.4% of parents feel that the weekly classroom news gives them the information that they need to know.
- 80% of parents rated the afternoon pick-up experience as a 4 or 5 out of 5!
Area for growth:
- If you do not feel that the communication from your child's teacher gives you the information that you need, I encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher!
Comments/Questions that I can answer:
Q: It's next to impossible to talk to your teacher in person. I don't see them at either pick up or drop off.
A: We truly want and support teacher/parent interaction and partnership. We encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher with any questions! With a school of over 850 students, teachers cannot personally deliver each of their students to the designated dismissal destination. We have students going home a minimum of 4 different ways. Logistically, it is not possible for every teacher to be at pick up or drop off.
Q: There were a few comments about bullying or other physical aggression.
A: We definitely want to address behavior concerns such as these! We encourage you to report bullying or physical aggression concerns to your child's teacher, or one of the administrators in charge of discipline. Please contact Sarah Boyle, sarah.boyle@pfisd.net or Adrian Tristan, adrian.tristan@pfisd.net. You may also call the front office and ask to leave a message for either one of these administrators.
Look for more survey results each week!
