When do students have indoor recess/mornings?
To determine whether or not children are outside, we use this chart as a guideline. When the temperature gets close to the second blue field, we strongly consider keeping students indoors.
It is important that you send your child to school dressed to be outside for 20 minutes of recess.
Must haves
- Hats
- Gloves
- Winter jacket
- Boots
- Snow pants
- Scarf
- Face mask
- Other items your child may need to stay warm
When every child at Franklin has a hat, a pair of gloves, a winter coat and a pair of boots, that's 6 items per child times 465 children for a total of 2,790 pieces of clothing. Chances are high that things will get dropped, misplaced or mixed up with other students' clothing. Labeling your child's clothing helps greatly.

Need a fun family activity?
Welcome to 2019-20 school year from Franklin Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). As a parent, legal guardian,or staff of students enrolled at Franklin Elementary School, you are a member!
Do you need Franklin clothing?
PTO has multiple options for you.
1) Annual Clothing Order: To shop every style of Franklin apparel available, you can order directly from B. Stark by November 1, 2019. New this year is a performance hoodie! Shop online at: www.mybstarkstore.com/Franklin
or print and fill out a paper order form (available at https://share.peachjar.com/flyers/846074/schools/92310)
We will not have a second order this school year, so if your family wants to show their Franklin pride, please place your order by November 1. Items will be delivered to school and sent home in backpacks before Thanksgiving Break.
2) All in-stock Franklin apparel is 50% off this year. You can order online at: https://franklin-elementary-pto.square.site or shop at future PTO events. Check out what we have in stock before placing your B. Stark order.
This discounted price applies only to clothing items that Franklin PTO has in-stock. Quantities and sizes are limited. Once in-stock clothing is sold, PTO will no longer stock Franklin apparel. Franklin apparel will need to be ordered during our annual clothing sale in the future.
If you want to pay by cash or check, you can also place an order directly with PTO Treasurer Amy Thomas at amyleefr@gmail.com.
Do you have clipped Box Tops for Education?
While Box Tops for Education has gone digital, we can still submit clipped Box Tops. If your family purchased items with Box Tops for Education on them, please collect and submit Box Tops to Franklin as they are worth 10 cents each to the school. Box Tops can be turned into classroom teachers by October 25 as part of the Fall Box Tops Classroom Competition. As always, if your family doesn’t typically buy products with Box Tops, we don’t expect you to change your purchasing habits. We’d just appreciate that you clip and submit if you have Box Tops around the house.
If you've been scanning receipts with the new Box Tops app, please look for a PeachJar announcement next week with more details on how to give your child's classroom credit for your digital Box Tops.
What are the Trash into Cash programs that help Franklin?
Franklin collects two items that would typically be considered trash and submits them for cash. If your family purchases food from Hy-Vee or products with Box Tops, you have items around your house that can earn Franklin money. Please collect and submit any of the following items:
Receipts from the two Mankato Hy-Vee stores dated after Sept. 1, 2019
Box Tops for Education
There are collection bins across from the school office near the first grade classrooms to turn in any Hy-Vee receipts you have. Franklin raises almost $1500 between these two trash into cash programs.
Looking for a free, fun family event?
If you're K-3 grade student is sad that the Family Picnic was cancelled because of the weather, you'll want to check out the Franklin Fall Carnival organized and hosted by the MNSU Learning Communities on Friday, October 25 from 6-8 p.m. in the Franklin cafeteria. This event is not sponsored by PTO, but it's been a parent and student favorite for years. Children can come dressed in costumes, but don't have to, and education majors from MNSU will have fun games and activities for the kids to do.
