Weekly Newsletter
September 16, 2022
Hello WES families,
I hope that you have had a wonderful week. It was another fantastic one at WES! It was wonderful meeting many of you at our Back to School Nights. Thank you for all of your support as we begin the adventure of this school year. I said it before...I am excited, thankful, proud that I get to share this year with you!
During the month of September, I will be meeting with all grade levels to review important School Board Policies as well as behavior expectations for the school year. These meetings will be age appropriate.
Additionally, our Back to School routine includes holding a variety of safety drills for all of us to practice. We are in the process of reviewing these safety procedures with the students. When we conduct a drill, you will receive communication about our practice.
Enjoy the weekend!
Sam

Library News
This week WES Students in second through sixth grades celebrated International Dot Day. Based on the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, Dot Day promotes creativity and collaboration while encouraging students to make their make on the world.
Second graders read The Dot, and created paper plate dots. Students in 3rd grade created a virtual three dimensional dot using Quiver Vision, and 4th grade students drew apple dots, exploring different aspects of visual literacy as they relate to books and fictional characters. Fifth graders competed in a Dot Day building challenge, and 6th graders participated in a Dot Day breakout adventure.
Cell Phones
Student cell phones are to be used for emergency purposes only. Cell phones are not to be used in school or on school busses. Cell phones must be turned off and kept in the students' backpacks. Please be advised that the school is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen items.
In today's world, there are many reasons that students carry cellular telephones, but we have to collectively remind students about their appropriate use. Please see the Student-Parent Handbook for more information.

WES Student-Parent Handbook
We encourage parents to review the revised Parent-Student handbook with their child(ren). This is optimal for families new to the school, but it's also a ideal way to have students get back into "school mode."
There are specific areas that would benefit a review with children before the start of the school year. These areas include policies involving:
- Birthdays
- Cell Phones
- Computer Usage Policy
- Forgotten Items
- Sneakers
- Dress and Grooming
- School Rules and Expectations
You can view the revised handbook at the following LINK.

Art Goes to School
Art Goes to School of Council Rock is welcoming new members
Join us and become an AGTS Volunteer!
We are welcoming new volunteers for the 2022/23 school year. If you love art and love children, AGTS might be right for you. No experience is necessary. We will provide information on our portfolio of prints, a volunteer handbook and help with preparing art appreciation lessons to present to elementary school children. You can either attend our weekly workshops in September and October, or access our reports on Google Docs to help you prepare. Once you have observe two or three experienced members, you will see that it’s not that hard to engage children in lively discussion of what they see and feel and think about art.
Each volunteer teaches one or two classes per school, a commitment of about two hours a month. We will work with your work from home schedule, so you can step away from your desk to stop in at school for your presentations.
In addition, Art Goes to School of the Delaware Valley provides two optional lectures each year for our continuing education at art sites in the region and two ZOOM lectures by art historians.
Our first meeting will be September 14 at 1:00 PM in the Newtown Township Municipal Building, 100 Municipal Drive (Durham Road), Newtown in community room #1.

Back-to-School Glow Dance
Join CREF and your local PTO/PTA/HSAs for a Back-to-School Glow Dance presented by The FUGE to celebrate 5th and 6th graders across the district!
The event will include a dance complete with an energetic DJ, glow elements, drinks, and a donut bar! While the kids are burning off their energy, we invite the adults to gather in the Parent VIP Lounge to enjoy appetizers and drinks.
The Glow Dance is a great way to connect with other 5th and 6th grade students and their families across the district in preparation for coming together in middle school. Proceeds from the Glow Dance support your school and innovative learning initiatives throughout the district. Click here to register!
