THE BLACK CAT
By Kazhal Shiwa
THEME STATEMENT
The story The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe is about the fear of going insane and reveals that no matter how much you think you have control over your self you don’t.
2 Excerpts
“I grew, day by day, more moody, more irritable, more regardless of the feelings of others. I suffered myself to use intemperate language to my wife.”
“I withdrew my arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain. She fell dead upon the spot, without a groan.”
FEAR STATEMENT FOR SHOW GREYS ANATOMY
The fear of going insane is still relevant today and can be seen in an episode of Greys Anatomy when Haley May gets admitted to the ER and gets diagnosed with schizophrenia. She refuses to believe it and even attempts to claw out her eyes. She was terrified and tried denying it as much as she could.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
I believe that the fear of losing your mind is something everyone can relate to. We all have lived our whole lives knowing one thing and being one person and having that change all of a sudden is frightening, losing yourself is frightening. The fear of going insane could possibly make someone go insane. If you lock your self in a room and constantly think about it then you're going to start going insane. The thought of losing your identity can be scary but you cannot constantly think about it or the fear might turn into reality.
