Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Minkler- Special Education Teacher- Ocean Crest Mrs. Minkler is a Mom with three kids- her son is in college and her two daughters attend BHS. She and her husband pastor a church in town together. Mrs. Minkler has lived in Bandon for 20 years, and before that she grew up in Southern California. She loves walking in nature, even though she can't stand bugs, dirt, and the heat. She loves going out for sushi, and shopping on ETSY. She is in her happy place when she is at home with her family, and when she gets to visit her sisters who live far away. It's absolutely her passion to help students find the tools and skills to thrive in learning. Plus, she has always believed we all have a chance at changing the world. | Liz Foster- 6th Grade Teacher- HLMS This is Liz's first year at Harbor Lights after teaching 4th grade for many years at Ocean Crest. She loves getting to come to work everyday because she finds her students interesting and they constantly make her laugh. She once got to high five Freddy Mercury, and the most interesting job she has had is working at Hot-Dog on a Stick. She loves hiking, kayaking, and just generally being outdoors. If she could learn to do anything, it would be to be a skilled down hill skier. | Kevin Haan- Social Studies Mr. Haan grew up in West Michigan. After graduating from high school, he majored in Philosophy and Religious Studies at Albion College. Throughout his life, he has had the opportunity to live in a variety of places including Chicago, New York, Portland, as well as on the Southern Oregon Coast. In 1996, he moved to Portland, Oregon, and with the exception of one year, lived here ever since. It was right after that move that he met Corey, the woman who would become his wife! Prior to becoming a teacher, he worked in the software industry as a product manager. After leaving the software industry, he returned to school and acquired a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in education. Kevin and his wife have three children and love living on the Southern Oregon coast. Kevin's hobbies include reading, playing video games, watching TV series with his wife (mystery, comedies, and sci-fi are their favorites), spending time with his family, and participating in church life. |

Shout Out To The Leadership Class
A letter from Ms. Pearson
I was excited to get to go up and help judge the McMinnville Speech and Debate tournament last week, their first live and in-person tournament in two whole years! The kids were all so excited to go up, and you could just feel the energy when we got to the high school Saturday morning.
The kids did amazing, and when they found Mr. Curtis and me after each round, they were quick to say how well they felt they had done. They were confident in their pieces and it showed, with nearly every student making it to the final rounds!
