Monday Morning Memo - Week 11
11/11/19
Dear Poupard Leaders,
Grandma's Surgery
I recently shared with many of you that my grandma was diagnosed with a rare form of stage 3 breast cancer. She has her second surgery scheduled for Monday, November 25th in Boston. Due to the seriousness of her condition, I will be flying out to be there for her and with my family and will not be at work on Monday and Tuesday of that week.
Thankfully, she is good spirits and is looking forward to seeing her loved ones leading up to her surgery. Thank you all for checking in with me these last couple of weeks. It's meant a lot! I appreciate you all.
Lunch Switch on November 20th
On November 20th, 1st, 4th and 5th will be attending a play at north and will be leaving the building at 12:00. Due to their early departure, we will need to swap lunch times around for the building.
1st, 4th and 5th will eat first then depart for their field trip
Y5, K, 2 and 3 will play first then come inside for lunch
Thanks for your flexibility in this making this swap so our students can experience a great time at the play at GPN!
Letters for Make a Wish
Just a reminder, a local Grosse Pointe parent has reached out to me and is hoping to partner up with us to write letters for the Macy’s Believe Campaign. The Believe campaign is a letter writing campaign where each letter submitted receives a $1 donation from Macys to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Some examples of letters students can write are:
- Write what their wish was for the year to come
- Letters to the troops wishing them a happy holiday and showing appreciation
- Write letters to a child that might be sick and is connected with the Make a Wish Foundation
- Letters sending someone good wishes.
- Young preschool sent in letters with scribbles and stickers.
Last year, she brought in over 5,000 letters and the campaign raised $2 million dollars overall. This year her goal is to collect over 10,000 letters.
Important Details:
- The letters don’t need to be in envelopes or stamped – just a simple piece of paper.
- The letters will need to be written and submitted to the office by December 2nd.
Food Drive
Student Lighthouse is beginning our Fall Food Drive! They will be collecting non-perishable food items to support our families in need this Thanksgiving. Please be sure to send the flyers home with students as soon as possible if you haven't done so already. Angela shared this electronically as well to share with families.
Please use the checklist to keep track of how many items have been brought in (total, not itemized). The classroom to collect the most items will earn a reward!
This is a great opportunity to discuss the importance of giving and helping others at a classroom meeting or during your Veterans Day activities. "No one has ever become poor by giving" - Anne Frank
Donation
Each year, the Poupard Staff comes together to donate items to ensure our families have a delicious Thanksgiving meal. In addition to the donations from students and families, we ask staff members to donate a turkey for the meal and/or a pie for dessert if they are able to. Our staff has been immensely generous during my time here which demonstrates the genuine care they have towards our students and families.
Below, is a Google Doc for staff members interested in donating a turkey or pie. Please do not feel obligated to contribute, but I would like to extend the option to all. You can donate as an individual or you can get a few people to contribute together. If you have any questions, please direct them to Angela.

Returning to class after IEP Meetings
It has come to my attention that some staff members may not be returning to class after IEP meetings and letting the substitute teachers remain inside their classroom for large chunks of time. I understand this may provide teachers time to catch up on much needed planning or other sorts of work that may be lingering. My expectation for individuals seeking to do this would be to communicate with Cindy and myself because we coordinate where the substitute may be utilized.
Thanks for your understanding and support!

Class Newsletters
Please share your weekly newsletters with me by "Ccing" me when they are emailed out to families. This allows for me to stay connected with all of the exciting things happening inside of your classrooms.
GES3
Our GES3 meeting dates and deadlines have been established by the team. You can access that information below. It will also be made available on our Poupard Schoology page.
GES3 Dates and Information Page
Walkie Talkie
All Classroom Teachers should have received a Walkie Talkie. Please take it with you when you take your students outside for an extra recess. The office staff will use it to locate individual students, typically for early dismissal.Emergency Information
Please be sure to review all of the emergency information for fire drills and tornado drills inside of your classrooms. We will be doing a sweep to make sure your emergency bags are stocked with everything that necessary and include updated rosters as they become available.
Behavior Referrals
Behavior Referrals must be completed using the Online Behavior Form. Staff must complete the behavior form anytime a student is sent down to the office for a major office referral. Homeroom Teachers and Special Area Teachers are responsible for contacting the family to notify them of any incidents that occurred inside of the classroom. Please call home over an email whenever possible. Personally, I'd recommend sharing anything over 3-4 sentences over a phone call as well.
