October 5th- 9th
What we learned this week:
- We focused on declarative sentences and learned every sentence needs too tart with a capital letter and end with a period.
- We wrote personal narratives about an animal we have seen in writing workshop.
- We read the book nonfiction story The Fox and her kit. We discussed that nonfiction books tell facts about the real world.
- We read nonfiction books about animals in our reading groups
- We worked in math on doubles facts (4+4) and near doubles facts 4+4 =8 so 4+5=9
- We worked on researching the USA symbols and started making keynote presentations
Work in action
Ethan searched for pictures of a bald eagle for his keynote presentation
Avery learned about Mt. Rushmore and learned to screenshot pictures to add to her keynote presentation.
Cece read books on epic about the White House and then found pictures to go in her presentation.

Reminder: NO school Monday, October 12th for a teacher inservice day!
What we will learn next week:
- We will read the realistic fiction story get the egg
- We will learn the new sight words: saw, tree, your small
- We will focus on initial blend consonants in phonics
- We will also focus on short e words in phonics
- We will continue to learn addition and subtraction strategies such using a number line, finding the missing addend and counting on and back
- We will finish up our keynotes in Social Studies on the USA symbols
