Engineering and Invention After School at EMS!
This year we are excited to announce an opportunity for creative, inventive, and imaginative EMS students! In October we are starting Estacada Middle School chapter meetings of MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement). MESA is a nationally recognized STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) organization which partners with Portland State University to provide engaging hands-on engineering and inventing experiences for kids here in our middle school community.
Come join us to build inventions, learn about block coding, build teamwork skills, and develop human-centered design skills to solve the problems facing our world today!
Where: MESA Club will meet at the middle school on Tuesdays after school (3:25 to 4:25) in room 109.
When: First meeting Tuesday, October 12th, 2021. Meetings will take place every Tuesday.
Participation in MESA is free to all student participants. Please note: there is no option for bussing home after MESA this year
To join, please have your child speak to their science teacher. Please contact Ms. Kottkamp with any questions or concerns at (kottkampb@estacada.k12.or.us).
Virtual Open House and Learning Series
You will meet your student's teachers by using your student's Chromebook or personal device and signing into Canvas classes to click on Zoom links.
This opportunity will be for you to familiarize yourself with what "right looks like" so you know what is being asked of your student throughout the year.

Do's and Don'ts for Face Coverings

--Should fit snugly over the face and cheeks
--Best to have clip on the nose

Will Your Student Have to Quarantine? Yes, potentially.
EMS has a responsibility to limit the transmission of COVID19 in school. To limit the transmission (not eliminate), these are the core safety measures:
--One-way hallways
--Mandatory mask-wearing
--3' physical distancing where and when appropriate
--Improved ionized air filtration systems
--Multiple lunchroom spaces, including outdoor eating
--Hand-sanitizing stations in each classroom and wipe-out-of-desk procedures
--Contact-tracking and seating arrangements
--Individual Chromebooks
--Quarantine and Isolation procedures
Please do not send your student to school if you or your student are unwell. If your student becomes sick we will notify you. And, if your student tests positive for COVID19, we need your help to ensure we can quarantine all close contacts your student has had while at school. Quarantine and Isolation procedures are a responsible and effective way to discontinue additional outbreaks at school. Be honest and communicate with us when you have questions.
Registration is now open for our 2021-2022 Estacada Youth Basketball season. You can register at www.estacadayouthbasketball.org.
Also, this league wouldn't run without our volunteers, coaches, and sponsors. So if you're interested in coaching, helping out, sponsoring a team or making a donation, please contact us at estacadayouthbasketball@gmail.com.
