Big picture

Each month this year we will have a school wide character trait focus. Our focus for the month of December is Kindness! The dictionary defines it as: “the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.” But it is so much more than that! The definition we are using in class is:

  • Kindness: the choice to act with words, gifts, or actions to bring appreciation, positivity, and encouragement to others and yourself.

We will spend time talking about how Kindness isn’t just a feeling, but a choice that we get to make every day! Click on the links below for more information about how you can incorporate kindness at home!

Character Trait Focus for December:

Each month this year we will have a school wide character trait focus. Our focus for the month of December is Kindness! The dictionary defines it as: “the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.” But it is so much more than that! The definition we are using in class is:

Kindness: the choice to act with words, gifts, or actions to bring appreciation, positivity, and encouragement to others and yourself.

We will spend time talking about how Kindness isn’t just a feeling, but a choice that we get to make every day! Want to choose kindness more at home? Implement a Kindness Challenge below!

  • Need Some Help?: Over dinner tonight, brainstorm ways that you can show Kindness to your neighbors. Maybe you’ve noticed that your neighbor hasn’t walked his dog in a while. Perhaps there are some leaves that need to be raked or flower gardens that need to be weeded. Are there trash cans that could be brought in off of the curb? Or might there be a car that you’d be willing to wash? Discuss which service you might want to offer, then knock on a door and ask, “Need some help?”
  • Kindness Cleanup: Show some Kindness for your mother – Mother Earth that is! Choose a local outdoor site, gather some gloves and trash bags, and spend some time picking up trash. Not only will you be showing Kindness for local flora and fauna, but other humans will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor as well.

If you feel like sharing, capture a photo of how much trash you collected and share it with friends on social media and challenge them to get more than you!

PTA

Breakfast with Santa was merry and bright! As a PTA fundraiser it brought in over $1900 for the school which will help pay for Reading Royalty and Paint night in early 2022. And even more fun and impressive was how the 5th graders worked the event, from seating guests to delivering drinks and pancakes to cleaning up the tables. Thanks to Santa, Hometown Pizza (Donna, you are so good to us!), the LES staff, the 5th grade parents and all the families that came out to support the event! See you again 12/3/22!

Teacher & Staff Holiday gifts are going great! Thanks to all who have sent in forms to support this event. PTA is currently creating the special tags that will go in with the ordered items and Noteworthy is currently creating the apparel. Teachers & staff will receive their gift on 12/13 so your child will get to see what they helped purchase before we all take a break for winter. If you have questions, please contact the coordinator, Nicole, at coleylove03@gmail.com.

If you are looking for other ways to give a little gift this holiday season, please reach out to Christina (christinakuehnel@aol.com) & Ashley (ashleyhendersonky@gmail.com) who can share with you the Favorite Things lists!
