News from Glacier Peak
Week of September 8, 2020 ll
Remarks from Mr. Griffin
I hope you have found a way to be warm within the snowy September Tuesday. Only in Colorado during 2020 would we see a temperature change like this. I want to personally thank everyone for their patience during the first few weeks of remote and pod learning. I think we are all trying to figure out a routine that makes sense for us all and of course your child(ren). Below you will find important information regarding upcoming remote learning, MAPs/Assessment Day, and some details about Chrome Books.
More Wednesday Clarification
We know that folks are still struggling to understand the Wednesday Schedule. On this day the learning is asynchronous, meaning that students will only have an optional (highly recommended) check-in zoom meeting in the morning. However, teachers are available during the day to answer questions or they may ask to work with small groups of students. For attendance on this day, students are only required to log into Schoology and complete the assigned tasks assigned by each teacher by 3pm or by the deadline set with the classroom teacher in order to be marked present.
If you are bringing your child to the Learning Pods at GPE, it is going to be a cold week and the chillers will not allow us to switch to heat, so please make sure your child has a coat.
Glacier Peak Learning Pod families, don't forget FREE breakfast and lunch are served every day!

*****Extra entrees, water and snacks are available for purchase every day. Please make sure your kiddos have money in their PayForIt account for these items.

Adjustment to Online Learning: Glacier Peak teachers have done an amazing job of getting our remote learning up and running. Our goal has always been to provide 6 hours or learning time, not 6 hours of screen time. Our teachers are still figuring out that balance of direct instruction paired with independent practice. In the coming weeks, you will see modifications to your child’s schedule to support this balance.
Ensuring that we have a safe and efficient learning environment: We are amazed at how quickly our students are increasing their computer skills just in this first week of school. While they continue to become more independent in their work, it continues to be imperative that parents supervise their child throughout the school day. This is helpful if students need support in their learning or simply an adult to re engage them.
Teacher communication & Support: Our teachers are working diligently between the hours of 7:15-3:15. Teachers will do their best to respond within 24 hours. If you are having an issue with technology the best place to start is: Tech support: https://familytechsupport.adams12.org/hc/en-us
MAPs Testing: All of our students in grades 1-5 will engage in our MAPs testing this month. This year the assessment will be done remotely during the school day. While we will need parent support in helping ensure your child is able to login to the assessment, it is important that parents DO NOT help their children in the assessment process. This assessment helps teachers see where students are and where to go next in their teaching. Allowing students to complete the assessment independently will allow teachers to know how to best support your child this year.
Important Please Read Information on Chrome Books:
If you borrowed an Adams 12 device last spring, we need to re-assign the device to your child as a Glacier Peak Elementary student for the 2020-21 school year. If devices are NOT re-assigned for this school year, they will be disabled on October 1st. Further, re-assigning the device will allow us to provide assistance if your device needs maintenance or becomes damaged. Please have the Chromebook in hand and call the main office at 720-972-5940. Our awesome office staff, Mrs. Case (office manager) or Ms. Hamiliton (registrar) will be able to re-assign the Chromebook over the phone.

Notes and Details:
Testing on these assessment days will be in person. Students and Staff will be required to wear a mask and will have their temperature taken upon entering the school. Students will only be permitted to be in the location where there testing is taking place. Parents will not be allowed in the school so please plan accordingly. Details on time and location will be coming from each individual teacher. The school day will be asynchronous for students when they are not in the school testing. Students will attend only for 45 minutes at their designated time. Many of our teachers may have already sent out signups to families. Families that have multiple children should attempt to sign up for similar times to make it more convenient.
