IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT, MR ROPER
Good Afternoon Students and Parents of Holly Area Schools,
I would like provide you with some important school calendar updates.
Half-Day of School on Friday, April 19th
We recently surveyed our parents about the option of scheduling a half-day of school on Friday, April 19th to reduce one of the days that would be required to be made up at the end of the school year. I would like to thank everyone for their participation in the survey. We had over 1,800 participants complete the survey. The results indicated that over 82% of those surveyed are in favor scheduling Friday, April 19th as a half-day of school.
Following the survey, we met with leaders from the district’s different employee groups to further review this option and confirm the district’s ability to operate school on April 19th. Yesterday, we finalized confirmation with the Holly Education Association.
As a result, Holly Area Schools has scheduled a half-day of school on Friday, April 19th. Please mark this date on your calendar. We have made the changes to our district website. With this change the new “tentative” last day of school is Thursday, June 20th for Rose Pioneer Elementary and Wednesday, June 19th for the rest of the buildings in our district. I use the word “tentative” because pending legislation may provide a couple of additional forgiveness days. We will update our students and parents as soon as more information is provided from the Michigan Department of Education.
Spring Break Calendar Change in the (2019 - 2020) and (2020 - 2021) School Years
Another change that I would also like to communicate is the week of Spring Break for the (2019 - 2020) and the (2020 - 2021) school years. Oakland County has changed the dates of Spring Break to a week earlier. This will align us with Genesee County and provide our students with a week back in school prior to engaging in standardized assessments. The 2019 - 2020 school calendar and the 2020 - 2021 school calendar is also attached to this message to see the Spring Break changes.
Thank you,
Scott M. Roper, Superintendent
APRIL 19 HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE DISTRICT CALENDAR AS A 1/2 DAY.
