Principal's Corner
February has arrived. Wow, this school year seems to be passing by very quickly. Please remind your child to dress appropriately for recess each and every day. We go outside for recess unless the wind chill temperature is below zero. Students need warm coats, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves to ensure they stay warm and dry while they play in the snow. If you need assistance with any of these items, please let the office know and we'll get you the items you need.
Our NWEA winter testing is completed. Teachers use the results of the NWEA math and reading tests to determine which WIN group is needed for each student as well as small group instruction in the classroom. You should hear from your child’s teacher regarding these results soon.
On Tuesday, February 14 we will celebrate Valentine’s Day at Steeby. Your child’s teacher will communicate with you what the celebration will look like in their classroom.
February is Kindness Month and we are focusing on random acts of kindness each and every day. Attached you will find ideas for your child to focus on kindness throughout the month of February.

2nd Grade Goalie
Our school has donated $5,272.03 so far! We are over half way to our school goal of $7,000. Great job! We have until Feb. 10th before our fundraising is done! Thanks to all who have donated. If you're still wanting to do so check out our website and make sure you label your child's name and teacher.
P.E. Fun
We just finished up our hockey unit and had a lot of fun even getting into goalie gear! Here's a couple goalies that were pictured.
Roy from Mrs. Fortier's class and Emma from Mrs. Hoskins class.
3rd Grade Goalie
This month we are doing some jump roping to continue to keep our heart healthy and starting volleyball.
We will end our Kids Heart Challenge with some fun events like silly stringing Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Merchant in the face and also having a Jimmy John's party with those that donated $100 or more. We will let you know soon when that will be.
Thanks so much and hope everyone has a fabulous February~
Notes From Music
Greetings from the Music Room! January went by fast and we have been working hard in music.
2nd grade has been learning new songs, moving to music, playing xylophones and reviewing rhythms and solfege. We learned about the song "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by reading the book - Sing a Song. We celebrated January by learning a snow song and doing the Snow Day Dance. We just finished some songs, a chant and movement to songs from Australia.
3rd grade is learning and reviewing songs for their music program coming up in March. They have also been reviewing rhythms and solfege and have been moving to music. We read the book "We Shall Overcome" about the song of the same name. We celebrated January by playing boomwhackers to "Let it Snow" and doing the Snow Day Dance!

Happy February!
Students will be learning about the author Robbyn Smith Van Frankenhuyzen and her books in February and March. Robbyn will be visiting Steeby elementary on Monday, March 20th. We read Adopted By An Owl: The True Story of Jackson the Owl and watched the video about the real life Jackson the owl. Then we went on the Pebble Go website to learn more about owls. Robbyn lives on a farm with her husband Nick. They help injured animals like Jackson on their farm. Here is more information about our visiting author: https://www.hazelridgefarm.com/about.html#Robbyn.
Also, mark your calendars! Literacy Night is coming up! Literacy Night is on Tuesday, February 28th from 6-7 p.m. We will have prizes, snacks and fun activities around literacy and reading. We look forward to seeing everyone at this FREE event at Steeby elementary.
