A Message from Mrs. Douthart
Principal, Five Forks Middle School
Dear Parents and FFMS Family,
2020 is off to a great start here at Five Forks! Our students performed extremely well on their District Assessment Post Tests (finals)! We are happy to have them back with us after a wonderful break as we start the second semester strong! Spring is a very busy time of year, and I wanted to take a moment to share a couple of things that I need your help with:
- 1. The driveway around the school is ONE WAY only. When anyone chooses to drive against traffic, it can have very dangerous consequences. We have been made aware of several incidents that could have resulted in an accident. I am also working with our transportation department to remind our bus drivers that the one-way rule applies to them as well.
2. Please help us with the dress code. We changed our dress code last year in an effort to try and reflect some of the newest trends. While ripped jeans are allowed, rips above the knee should be covered by the student wearing leggings or some type of garment underneath their jeans. (The old rule was absolutely no holes above the knee.) Additionally, we are completely fine with students wearing hoodies with the cold weather; however, please know that we ask our students to remove their hoodies from their heads once they are in the building. Finally, students have been bringing blankets and stuffed animals to school. The first time we collect these, they are stored in the front office for the students to retrieve prior to leaving for the day, but if the student violates this rule more than once, we will ask for parents to come and collect the items. The FFMS Dress Code can be found in your child's agenda book on pages 7 and 8.
3. Cellphones and electronics have quickly become an issue all across the nation, and Five Forks is no exception. Please remind your students of the policy located on page 9 in the agenda book. We ask that our students have their phones off and out of sight during the school day because many of our students are becoming increasingly distracted by texts, etc. and it is interfering with the learning environment. I would also like to ask that you do not text your children during the day. Please know that if you have a message that you absolutely need your child to have during the day, you can always call our school office at 770-972-1506, and we will be happy to relay the message. At this time, when students are violating the policy, we collect the device and put it in the front ofice for them to retrieve prior to the end of the day; however, continued violations will lead to a discipline referral and consequences.
4. Remind your students to finish strong--with their academics and their behavior. We truly want the best for our students, and we know that with their help and your support--we will achieve it!
I hope that you have a great weekend!
