2021-2022
Message from our counselor, Mrs. Edwards
The end of the school year can stir up a mix of emotions. While doing my last lesson with our students this month, we talked about how we are feeling about this year coming to a close. We talked about all of the different changes that COVID has brought us and how they handled them with such resilience. The end of the school year means saying "hello" to summer, more free time outside, and more time for playing. It also means saying "see you later" to our teachers, classmates, classrooms, and possibly even TMSE. I explained to our students that it is important to not keep your feelings bottled up inside and to get your feelings out somehow. They may choose to talk about them, write about them, draw them, or talk to someone. It is totally normal to have all of these feelings, but it is important to let them out and to try and think helpful thoughts. If you notice that your child is struggling with the end of the year, here are some things that you can say to them:
1-Things are different and changing, but that's okay.
2-Tell them they are strong enough to handle anything that comes their way.
3-Ask them what they are looking forward to next school year.
4-Ask them if they have any questions about next school year.
5-Ask them what they got better at this school year or what their favorite memory was.
I am so proud of each and every one of our students for how they have handled this year of transitions. I know that they will do great things this summer and even GREATER things next year. If you need me for any reason before the end of the school year or this summer, please feel free to email me:
Survey for TMS-E PTA
The TMSE PTA is still looking for parents who would like to join the PTA board. We are in need of a second Secretary and someone to help with fundraising. The PTA Secretary takes minutes at the monthly PTA meetings. Fundraising involves helping organize Spirit Nights at local restaurants and planning fundraisers like Raise Craze. If you are interested or would like to learn more, please contact Kristina McDonald (kristina.l.mcdonald@gmail.com).
