A Message from Principal Blair...
Over the last two weeks, all students completed MAP growth testing in Math and Reading classes. This universal screener takes the place of the STAR RENAISSANCE screener that we used last year. Students will complete beginning (BOY), middle (MOY), and end (EOY) of year testing. MAP testing was adopted across the district and will be used as a tool for progress monitoring at Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. Family Reports will be sent hom next week. I have included a sample report for you to review.

Library Info & Tech Tips
Now it is easier than ever for students to have 24/7 access to books! Sora is an app by Overdrive that allows students to easily access JISD's amazing collection of Ebooks and audiobooks. In the app, students can track the books that they have read and how many minutes they spend reading. Statistics show that students who use Sora are likely to double the amount of time they spend reading each month! Check out the app here and start reading today!
Empathy and compassion are two character traits that we have been exploring in counselor lessons. When we know we will be treated with kindness and understanding, it makes school a safe place to learn and “fail forward.” Everyone makes mistakes, and taking ownership of our mistakes is what turns us into responsible people.
Parents can model empathy so your child learns that it is okay to make mistakes as long as we are learning from them. Young people these days face lots of challenges, and feeling the support and encouragement from parents can help them handle those challenges in a positive way, even if they have made a mistake before.
Teach time management skills to help them prioritize their responsibilities.
Communicate family values to ensure they understand what the family deems as most important.
Set goals and expectations together so you and your child are on the same page with what is expected.
Making mistakes is all a part of life. Making the time to talk with your child about how to improve is also important. These conversations can help strengthen the parent-child relationship, and help your child make healthy choices when faced with issues like stress and peer pressure now and in the future.
