Technology
Knob Noster School District will continue to provide Internet security within our schools. It is important that parents also monitor Internet use at home. We encourage you to talk with your son or daughter about the potential danger of the Internet. We also encourage you to establish rules and guidelines to ensure the safety of your child while on the Internet. I attached some sites that will support Digital Citizenship with all our students. I also have attached the KN District Technology Handbook. Students are not allowed to download games and are only to use a school device ( chrome book or ipad) for educational purposes. We have placed on all their screens our Whiteman Elementary Symbaloo that provides educational sites that have been specifically added by district to make this easy for parents to monitor.
Knob Noster Public Schools Technology Department is proud to provide our students with state of the art educational technology and world-class service and support. We want to prepare today's students for tomorrow's world and we believe that technology, when used appropriately, can unlock new avenues for learning at every level. The department manages the district’s fleet of over 2,000 student and staff devices, as well as the networks that they run on. In any given week, we will interact with dozens of faculty and student body members, working to support their use of district technology resources. In this ever-increasing connected world, it is vital that our students develop the skills to safely and effectively utilize digital devices. Our mission is to provide access and availability to the tools that will help grow those skills
Protecting student information and privacy both on and offline is a critical part of our data security plan. Every educational software package, website, and app comes with a lengthy Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Those are the legal-looking documents we all usually agree to without reading or even giving a second thought. The school district subscribes to a service from Educational Framework called EdPrivacy to help ensure the software and websites that our students use are compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other student data privacy regulations.
The school district subscribes to multiple state of the art services that help to ensure our students' safety online.
Lightspeed Systems Content Filtering helps to ensure compliance with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) by blocking access to inappropriate content on websites. While this filtering solution is very effective, the district cannot guarantee that access to all inappropriate sites will be blocked.
Gaggle Safety Management Service is used to help keep students safe on school-provided Google G Suite for Education accounts, helping to protect them from self-harm, cyberbullying, drug or alcohol use, pornography and other harmful situations. Gaggles trained professionals evaluate content 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and will alert school officials of unsafe situations.
